Color Blocking Two Ways: Outfits Modeled by Women over 45

April 17, 2011 By Shelley Zurek

Color Blocking is one of the Hottest Spring 2011 Looks!

Color Blocking Outfits modeled by Women over 45The Chief Blonde wears a color blocked dress from the Loft; Brighton Belt $8 from Salvation Army; vintage pin, purse and jacket; and Sonoma Leather Boots from Kohls ($9.99-90% off sale!)

Color Blocking?  What is it?  In “Fashion” terms, what does it mean?  Often, Color Blocking is defined as large swatches of mixed but matching brights. Another definition can be “Bold color Combos”.  I have opted for the second definition.   After my pictures, I have included a video,  from the Stylist which will help you figure this fun but slightly confusing trend.

The Chief Blonde thought it would be great to show you this look two ways with the same dress.  One is a “Going to Church” look, the other is a “Wear Anywhere” casual look.  Did you notice that even my Church shoes are color blocked Mary Janes?  (In the first photo, the Chief Blonde is wearing a Color blocked dress from the Loft,  Mary Janes from Target, vintage Italian purse ($75 from Rice and Bean Vintage)  and a vintage chain.

Now some of these accessories are super cool so I wanted you to get a close look at some of them!

Wouldn’t you mistake me for Emma Pillsbury in these accessories?  Oh, by the way have you seen this cool blog, What would Emma Pillsbury Wear?  (She’s the cute redhead counselor on Glee played by actress Jayma Mays).

Accessories Still BLonde after all these YEARS

Can you even believe I got this gorgeous Brighton belt at the Salvation Army?  I never ever go in without checking the belts!  Somebody must have gotten really sick of their Brighton as there were 9 Brighton belts all just hanging there priced from $8-$12. I nearly fell over and died. Then I picked myself up off the ground and bought three of them!  I’m blonde, not stupid.  DUH!

Please visit Pretty Shiny Sparkly, Bloggers Do it Better Hop, to see all of the Fashion Bloggers around the internet who are Color Blocking!

So check out this video I promised you from the Stylist, so that you can get in on the Color Blocking trend as well!

Hi, Yes we have both in our town. Recently travelled out of town to a Goodwill and found that it was much better. Tons of clothes and .29 cent items as well. Fun!

Our Salvation Army does 5/$5 Fridays. I was thinking it would be fun to do an outfit post by gathering 5 items! What do you think?

      Hi Daphne,

I will def. let FBFF know about the next assignment.

Thanks for your input on the styling. I wish more people would give tips and insight like that versus just all “the dress is fab”. I think it helps us all improve.

Jess, that’s super sweet. Yeah, real life color blocking. Cuz you know during the 80s people really dressed like that in public. I can show you pictures! (of me). and it wasn’t pretty!

I love this colorblocked dress! It looks great with the black and white shoes and long necklace–very sophisticated take on this trend!

    • stillblondeafteralltheseyears says

      April 20, 2011 at 9:01 pm

thanks Shea, I never thought of the Going to Church outfit as being sophisticated. Now that you mention it, it is really ONE of the only “dressy” looks that I have seen. and I have commented on every single outfit. You really don’t think of dressy when you think of color blocking do you?
