Ahhh Christtmas. It’s that wonderful time of year when every thought turns to wonderful special desserts. My mother and grandma always made or served the best of everything. Whether grandma made or store bought, each treat laid out was a nod to a family tradition or something new and fun!
Now all the holidays are hosted at my house. I love to serve pies and cakes during the holidays! Who doesn’t? Sometimes I bake, sometimes to provide myself some stress relief I serve . I get homemade goodness and variety with Marie Callender’s.
Marie Callender’s has wonderful individual carrot cakes, pecan pies, cream pies like key lime and chocolate satin, fruit pies like the hard-to-find razzleberry or apple crumb cobbler, and premium pies such as caramel apple pie. Mmmmmm!
Create a dessert buffet with your holiday leftovers and chocolate bowls
For Christmas luncheon, I serve pies and cakes warm with ice cream and whip cream. However, later on in the evening, I take a different approach. I serve the same desserts from lunch, but I make a dessert buffet. I make chocolate bowls and let everyone choose different selections of desserts. They pile them in small portions into the chocolate bowl and have a new experience then they had at lunch time. With the huge variety of Marie Callender’s desserts, you can’t go wrong with this approach.

How to make chocolate bowls or chocolate cups for your leftover desserts
- Blow up balloons to the size of chocolate bowl or chocolate cup that you want to achieve.
- Coat each balloon with shortening to keep the chocolate from sticking.
- Melt chocolate wafers as directed in a bowl that will allow you to coat balloons to proper depth. Spread out wax paper or parchment paper and place a small circle of melted chocolate as the base.
- Quickly dip balloons in melted chocolate and place on circles.
- Freeze chocolate dipped balloons for 30 minutes to help the chocolate set and balloon to pull away from chocolate. Remove chocolate covered balloons from fridge. Pop balloon and peel away from chocolate bowl.
- Serve leftover desserts in chocolate bowls or chocolate cups.

What dessert would you repurpose in our Chocolate Bowls?

I’d make mini chocolate bowls and fill them with fresh strawberries.
I just love the idea of these chocolate Bowls..What a neat idea for special Occassions. Only thing is I could never pop a balloon on purpose lol~ When I was a Child I used to run and hide when I new someone was going to pop a balloon!! It just stayed with me. I still cringe and leave when I think someone is blowing a balloon up too much anticipating the pop! Ha! But these are just too awesome not to make. I will get my husband to pop them for me 🙂
Thankyou so much for sharing this with us! They would also make awesome icecream Bowls!!
they do indeed Cathy!
My grandkids did these! The chocolate bowls were fun projects and turned out really cute. Worked so well filled with ice cream. Today, we should pour on the hot fudge, whipped cream, sprinkles, and a cherry on top. It’s National Hot Fudge Sundae day, and a hot fudge sundae in a chocolate bowl sounds wonderful and chocolatey.
It may not be Christmas time, but it’s Christmas in July time. 🙂
My grandkids would love making these. We made homemade ice cream for the Fourth, and today is strawberry sundae day. Strawberries and chocolate go so well together, and a strawberry sundae would be yummy in a chocolate bowl.
You can’t go wrong with chocolate…making it into a bowl where you add other desserts…genius! So many options from ice cream in a chocolate bowl to cheesecake to strawberry shortcake. I wonder how cereal would be in a chocolate bowl?! 🙂
what a nice idea I like it thanks
Oh man, I would love to make a chocolate bowl!
This is a great idea for Valentines day. I usually make a cake, and even that would be yummy served in the chocolate bowl. Thanks for the recipe.
These are really cool! I would use them for ice cream, sprinkled with brownies! 🙂
This looks so yummy and really cute too….but….I wouldn’t be able to do the chocolate bowl because I am highly allergic to latex. =(
Chocolate is my favorite and I would love to try this recipe
My Mom has Celiac disease so some desserts out of the question now. I like the idea of the chocolate bowl because that would serve as a “crust” which is usually where we run into problems avoiding wheat.
I love chocolate. I would love to make a chocolate buffet and just go crazy eating.
Those are easy to make and they look nice too. No dirty bowls to wash is a plus too. I don’t use a computer much and don’t know cut and paste or a url. On the form I’ll leave my name and title of where I commented. I hope that’s okay?
What a cool idea. I love the little bowl. Never thought of using a balloon as a mold 🙂
This sounds so easy and is so cute. I would love to use it with ice cream. YummY! Thanks!
What a great idea! I’m pinning this one to try later! Thanks!
I’d be afraid to put much into a chocolate bowl because I think they would break.
The chocolate bowls are such a great way to serve Christmas yummies. I love that idea. I could see making some to have on hand, as they would be such a hit! I also was thankful to read about Marie Callender’s. I love their pies, and I haven’t had one in years. That will also have to be part of this years holiday. Pecan pie…yummmmm
I love the chocolate bowl idea, and have seen it before, but didn’t believe it would work. Maybe I’ll try it, if the mood strikes me.
