Cake My Day Inspirations: Food Crafts for Kids — UP CAKE

March 6, 2015 By Shelley Zurek 240 Comments

Introducing “Cake My Day” Cake Design Cookbook

This is a Fashionista Event and a promotional item was provided to me by Sweetworks. Hosts for this event are Still Blonde after all these Years and ModlyChic.

UP cake Cake My Day 700 3

Introducing CAKE MY DAY by Karen Tack & Alan Richardson

This month Sweetworks sent us over a box filled with goodies and one simple mission – make a cake that’s inspired by a soon-to-be released book Cake My Day and utilizes some of the candies in the box. Challenge accepted!

Cake My Day

UP Cake inspired by CAKE MY DAY

We flipped through the book, getting inspired and then went to work creating another kid-themed treat (like our Christmas Santa Hat Cake or our Halloween Eyeball Spiders). There is an amazing looking balloon cake in the new CAKE MY DAY book called Up, up and away, that started the ball rolling. Balloons are great but what do kids associate balloons with these days? The movie UP, of course. So why not go with that?

UP cake Cake My Day

How to make the UP CAKE!

The creation is simple. Take a square cake, cut into the shape of a house and then decorated with colored frosting and plenty of Sweetworks candies to create the look and feel of a house. Make a dozen, or more, small cupcakes. Cover them in blue frosting and top them off with a large colorful gum ball. Attach some kind of stringy candy to the balloons and house to give it the floating feeling and Ta-Da, you’re done. Simple and totally do-able!

Special shout-out: Katy Rose of ModlyChic had her mother, Shirley Hinderer, create this cake for me. She is truly the hands of God, and I cannot thank she and Katy enough for their kindness.

They don’t talk about the book on that site. The only thing they have listed about the book is a chapter on using Sara Lee Poundcakes. The rest of the site is for their own contest.

It’s so full of color and energy and fun! I like the graphic in it because it presented the recipes just like a magazine layout.

I like the entire chapter devoted to store bought frozen pound cakes like Sara Lee and how easy Cake My Day makes it look.

My favorite feature of this book is that it has so many funny recipes. I especially love the Abominable Snowman, my daughter is a huge Rudolph fan!

For one thing I love the abominable snowman on the front cover!!! What a cute idea. I am not a cake maker I usually buy them and that is so expensive. i would love this book to help me learn how to make these awesome cakes.

Oh my gosh…the raggedy ann cake…an upright cake…how cool. Love the twizzler hair too.

I love how it really gives great in-depth instructions – I hate when I go to make a recipe and the author kind of “assumes” that you know what to do with a certain item. These recipes look great!

I love that this book shows you how to make the most amazing looking cakes, like the cake that looks like a toaster or the cake that looks like a pie, amazing.

I love the full color pictures. I don’t like recipes without a picture of what it is supposed to look like. Very inspiring.

I like that there are such great amazing looking cakes. I love that they suggest buying Sara Lee Pound Cake, so that you have more time to decorate, plus a dense cake like a pound cake would take decorations better than a light and fluffy cake.
