Meet Me at the Round Table Restaurant
Walt and Shelley at the legendary Round Table Restaurant in New York City
Walt and I were invited for a lunch and art exhibit to the Marriot Property, The Algonquin Hotel, Times Square, which opened November 22, 1902. The hotel is the oldest and longest operating in the city and is located on historic Club Row, West 44th Street. The Round Table Restaurant, located in the dark oak paneled lobby of the Algonquin, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. See my review of the “The Algonquin Hotel Celebrates The Tonys As Seen By Hirschfeld, NYC”
While dining at The Round Table Restaurant in NYC, Shelley and Walt share cocktails (the Matilda and the Dorothy Parker) while sitting at current “Round Table” in front of the famous “Vicious Circle Painting” by Natalie Ascencios.
Walt and I tried the famous “Matilda” and “Dorothy Parker” signature drinks of The Round Table Restaurant. The “Matilida” is draws it’s name from the resident house cat named Matilda. There has been a house cat in residence at the Algonquin since 1920s, when then owner Frank Case took in a stray. You can often find the current Matilda lounging in her perch in the hotel window.
The “Dorothy Parker” drink is named after Dorothy Parker who was a writer and literary and drama critic who wrote for Life, Vogue, Vanity Fair and the New Yorker magazines. She along with many other famous writers and progressive thinkers of the 1920’s formed “The Vicious Circle”, a group that met regularly at The Round Table restaurant. They swapped gossip, opinions, Broadway tidbits, and story ideas.
While at the Round Table, Walt and I had drinks, appetizers, lunch and dessert. Each presentation was genteel and delicious. While craft cocktails are all the rage currently, The Round Table restaurant and the adjacent lobby bar, The Blue Bar have been serving classic cocktails for decades.
The Algonquin’s Blue Bar offers pre-theater dining and all day light fare is available in the vibrant lobby lounge.
Walt choose the Fish Won-Ton Tacos as his appetizer, while I picked the cheeses of the Hudson Valley. While pricey, neither of these appetizers could be faulted for taste, presentation nor quality.
For lunch, I choose the Smoked Trout Risotto and Walt had Fish and Chips. Once again, courses with no disappointment.
By this time, as you can imagine, Walt and I were getting a little stuffed but we did manage to down a delicious Apple Tart for dessert.
Final Impressions: For a lunch meal: Service 10, Food 10, Ambiance 10

I would want the new york city subway map so I wouldn’t get lose and I would know what subway I was taking. I want to go on a trip to NYC soon so this would be very helpful.
Weird, but I’d choose the American Laundry Machine advertisement. I love vintage ads, plus I worked my way through school in a hotel’s industrial laundry, so I’m intimately familiar with those sorts of machines!
I would choose the New York City Firefighters Ground Zero Photo (Size: 22.5″ x 26.5″) Framed because it means so much to our American history. It was the saddest day, no doubt, in American history, but we managed to rebuild and restore. That is what Americans do. We do not give up, and we do not take kindly to terrorists. My mother was born in New York, in Astoria. She got breast cancer when I was only 15 years old, and she died from it 2 weeks before my 21st birthday. That was in 2001, February 8th, to be exact. There is so much that I hate that she missed, but seeing those towers crumble like castles made of sand, is NOT one of them! In fact, I believe it would have broken her heart.
I love the Twin Towers World Trade Center Sepia print. I had the opportunity in high school to visit them and it’s so sad that they aren’t there anymore.
The New York City Cube looks neat.
I would like the New York City Subway Map Poster Print.
I would pick the The Twin Towers World Trade Center NYC New York City 11″ X 14″ Sepia Poster because it is a symbol of America.
I would get the New York Shadow Box Sign with State Shape so I could give to a friend.
I like this New York City Cube, The Perfect Souvenir Gift Of Manhattan Skyline
it looks great
I like the The Twin Towers World Trade Center NYC New York City 11″ X 14″ Sepia Poster in remembrance of 9/11.
I would love the Derek Jeter Set – Authentic Game Used Pinstripe Jersey and Pants 5/13/2014 0-3 R 2633rd Career Game but I don’t want to pay for it!
I would chose The Twin Towers World Trade Center 11″ × 1 4″ Sepia Poster because I collect things related to 9 /11.
The World Trade Center Twin Towers sepia poster, because a picture of the Twin Towers was one of the last photographs I took when I visited New York.
I would love the 1982 New York City Skyline because its the year I was born and I love the picture! Thanks for having this giveaway!!
What a different and unique gift! The New York City Cube, The Perfect Souvenir Gift Of Manhattan Skyline really looks nice.
The New York Dolls/Television concert poster is very cool!
I would choose the New York Shadow Box Sign with State Shape just because I think it would be fun and look good on my wall.
