911: The Bell Tolls for Thee

September 11, 2011 By Shelley Zurek 11 Comments

We Are All Part of the Whole..

As I wrote the title for this post,  New York Mayor Bloomberg stepped forward to the podium and uttered the same words that I had in my heart..”The Bell Tolls for Thee”.  It was a shock to hear him, capture the same thought that had occurred to me, that we are all affected by this day.   While I would like to offer some super original thought to sum up the emotions we surely all feel on this day…I think these original words from John Donne, which were later developed into a poem serve to relate the feelings of unity that stem from this Day.  God Bless the Families of 9-11 and God Bless America.

    My heart literally hurts and is so heavy for so many peoples lives that were tragically changed on that day and who’s lives have remained completely different from that event. My prayers go out to them today and everyday.

    It’s amazing that I can still remember exactly where I was when this happened!! I think we so easily get that we are united as an America!! This moment sad and unforgettable brought us together. Unfortunately we are too quick to forget.

    I can’t believe that it has been 14 years since this tragedy. All the people who lost their lives and the family and friends that lost so much also, brings tears to my eyes every time I think of this day. I’ll never forget, I was working at Subway, and my manager and I were prepping foods to get ready for opening. We had the TV on and we saw the first plane hit the tower. We were devastated. We looked at each other and began balling, and grabbed each other in an enormous and lasting hug. We called the owner, and he had us close the store. That was when my personal memorial started, and I have honored those fallen and their families ever since.

    We will never forget about 9-11-2001. Still feel for the families of the first responders that lost their lives and all the souls in the towers that lost theirs.

    The condition of this world is scary to say the least. I think it’s crucial to remember where we come from, our defeats and our victories. Wish the rest of the world thought so. God Bless America.

    That passage is so poignant and appropriate.

      I often recall it. How could he have nailed it so well 300 years ago?

    To be honest until today I was not really thinking of what happened 10 years ago. I got up and open the computer……it is then that I was remembered that day where to many of them lost there lives. As the cross stood it was to show us that their souls are with God a peaceful reminder for the family’s and the rest of the world.

    Took the time to say a prayer for the families.

    As this day 10th anniversary day is coming to an end, I came across your post and all I could think of was through all of the tragedy, pain and disbelief of that day, stood this “cross” to show that God will get us through this too.

    I would like to repeat your sentiment;

    God Bless the Families of 9-11 and God Bless America.
