The Chief Blonde Remarks: I swear after looking at this book, I feel that Barbie just had to have been inspired by Marilyn and William Travilla Designs. This book is truly eye candy that you and your visitors (who grab it from your coffee table, will look at again and again. It’s just so fascinating to see how Travilla accentuated Marilyn’s beauty and natural sexiness with the absolute perfection in design. Marilyn knew how to move and pose and present herself but William Travilla knew how to provide the vehicle for Marilyn to emphasize. William Travilla was one of the most sought-after designers of Hollywood’s Golden Age, creating outfits for Jane Russell, Paul Newman, Judy Garland, and Lauren Bacall, and earning an Oscar in 1949 for his work in Adventures of Don Juan. But his most famous client was undoubtedly Marilyn Monroe.
In Dressing Marilyn: How a Hollywood Icon Was Styled by William Travilla (Applause Books, $29.99), Andrew Hansford takes fans of Hollywood glamor and fans of fashion back in time. Dressing Marilyn features previously unseen material, including original sketches, patterns, and costume test shots, along with insights from lost interviews with Travilla that reveal the fashion secrets of a Hollywood goddess.
I just adored this book. The glamour was the component that struck me. Not matter how great the gowns that starlets wear today…nothing can match the grandeur of Hollywood’s Golden Age and certainly, Marilyn Monroe and William Travilla pooled their assets to create a brilliant partnership. I highly recommend this book for Women over 45, anyone who adored Marilyn Monroe, followers of fashion, and others who enjoy the 50s and early 60s era. would love to win 🙂
love the whie one
Love Marilyn
I like the ones that covered more! I do not like immodest clothing and I really believe the modest, dressy items are more attractive and alluring than those that bare so much. I think that is why some of the older styles are more beautiful. They were often flashy but left more to the imagination – which is not such a bad thing!
They were all very pretty…. too hard to pick a fave.!
Like everyone else I love the gold one.
I know I have entered this already but for some reason the rafflecopter wont refresh showing my entries, so i will enter again, just delete all but the dailies?

I like the tight pink with the bow in the back worn with the black gloves
My favorite is the pink one on the cover. I think it is the prettiest one!
the gold one
I loved the sky blue one because it was stunning on her. Of course, everything was stunning on her! Back then, women were permitted to have curves and meat on her bones. If you would have said you were a size 0 that would have admitted you into the hospital and fed you through and IV! lol
How do you pick just one? She was amazing? There was a mid-calf white dress that almost reminded me of a casual wedding dress or maybe even a church-style dress with long sleeves and darling hat that looked so elegant! Beautiful!
There was an older dress in a black and white picture looked like it was made with brocade. It also had a full skirt made of probably twill. And was modest
I like the white one in the beginning. The one showed in a lot of pictures of it flying up. I think it’s cute and stylish.
I love the pink dress on the cover of the book. I think they saved the best for last on the video because this is old hollywood style…the dress speaks for itself
The red one with a little black on it and slit up the thigh.
the gold one and it stood out
I love the red one she wore along with Jane Russell.
Actually, I love the pink one as I just love the color pink. The bow on the back would provide a nice pad to sit upon. I also loved the gold one with the rhinestone trim that was plunging but still did not show anything like they do today.
Love the gold one, beautiful!
The white one
