Toys from the ’60s Skat Skoota + Great Giveaway
Blog Note: The Chief Blonde brings you the Skat Skoota information for your enjoyment. She received a promotional item.
Skat-Skoota (or Skat Skoota) is like Walking on Wheels!
The Skat Skoota made by Empire (or Eagle Toys Canada), from the 1960s was a riot to play on and also a total death trap. Essentially, you pedaled it to ride it. The pedals often got stuck in a wonky way, throwing you from the toy and causing skinned knees and hands (WHO wore pads or helmets in the ’60s?)
The tires and wheels of the Skat Skoota were brightly colored polyethylene. It was a super durable toy. You can occasionally find Skat Skootas for sale on eBay. They tend to go for around $20. If you find one buy it! Although this toy only goes in a straight line, it provides hours of fun (and/or broken limbs!)

I owned one of these in 63…loved it. My mom bought it at one of the Sears stores in Houston. My friend John and I would compete to see who was the more agile. I spoke to him today, he doesn’t remember it .,,, And as far as it selling for about $20 online….good luck finding that deal. I see it selling for well over $100 . how the times have changed.
thanks for your input on the Skat Skoota! It was one dangerous piece of work.
I had one of these! I wanted a skateboard, but since my mom’s best friend broke her arm on one, I was given this instead. Zero cool factor though I did have fun on it. It’s not as dangerous as it looks and it’s a heck of a workout going uphill.
This was my favorite toy as a child!
Mine too ! I stayed on this for hours. I do.t remember any danger I just loved it
It looks very dangerous. Didn’t have one growing up.
This looks truly nice, it brings back memories from a long time ago. I thank you for reminding me.
I remember these although we didn’t own one! Imagine the exercise and balance one can get from this…I’d better wear pads, a helmet, and pillows to prevent bone breakage! LOL
LOL these look so fun. I would have liked this when I was little, thank you for sharing!
That rates right up there with the pogo stick!
This looks like so much fun and will get your legs in shape too! I want one!
I would break every bone in my body! My kids would love this. I would have to wrap them in bubble wrap first but it would be something fun I am sure.
I don’t know this toy, but see an accident waiting to happen. Fun and broken bones in one…scary for parents. Don’t think I’ll get one for my grandkids, but thanks for sharing. I didn’t know that name.
