Waterpik Ultra Water flosser Review, Alternative Dental Floss Method

March 20, 2012 By Shelley Zurek 19 Comments

WaterPik Ultra Water Flosser, LESS PAIN ..MORE GAIN

Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser

Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser  –Are your Teeth or Gums Irritated?

My husband gets food caught under a crown in his tooth constantly.  I have several teeth that have a wide gap where food just LOVES to collect!  Sound familar? I know its  a little gross personal to discuss my dental hygiene and issues, but someone has to tell you solutions..right?  Why not the Chief Blonde who is willing to be an authority on everything!!

Our Dental Hygienist recommended the  Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser as way to solve our dental issues. Dental floss works for the “caught food” issue but sometimes floss doesn’t get all the food out, and it often leads to bleeding, pain and irritation.  Do you find that?  To quickly describe how the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser works…imagine a stepped-up version of that devise the dental hygienist uses when cleaning your teeth. You know the one that sprays water into your mouth to help you get out all the grit from a cleaning?  Wouldn’t it be great to have something like that in your own home to get the food out?

THE BENEFITS of the Waterpik Ultra WaterFlosser

I was fortunate to be able to take the recommendation of our Dental Hygienist, when I was offered the opportunity to review the Waterpik Ultra WaterFlosser (MSRP $59.99).  They claim that using the flosser in just one minute a day, prior to brushing leads to a cleaner, healthier mouth.  It is supposed to be easier and more effective that string floss.  6 unique tips for the Waterflosser are included (Classic jet tip, toothbrush tip, plaque seeker tip, Orthodontic tip–use with Braces, Pik Pocket–for medicaments,  and a tongue cleaner).  The tips are stored in a closed compartment at the top of the unit protecting them from dust and debris.  You have 10 pressure settings so you can achieve gentle but optimum cleaning.  The large covered water reservoir allows for 90 seconds of continual cleaning .  On the tip handle, there is a pause button so you can stop water flow.  Waterpik guarantees healthier gums in 14 days or you money back.

stillblonde3 smallChief Blonde Remarks: As many of you know, my blog policy is to only POST reviews for items I recommend.  That’s why I won’t do a review from a Hi-Res picture (can you believe that’s all some companies offer? or that some bloggers do that?) My and my husband’s experience with the Waterpik Ultra Waterflosser was top notch.  Highly recommend purchasing this unit for yourself, your teen with braces, or a loved one who wants a better way to floss.  My husband and I found that we only used one of the tips, the Classic jet tip, but we could see that we COULD use the others in different situations in our life.  The Waterflosser is really non-irritating, your mouth actually TINGLES after use.  I found it quite fun to use and it takes up very little counter space with an lovely clean design.  On my first few attempts at using it, I must admit, I did spray a little bit of water around the bathroom because…well…I didn’t read the directions on how to use the water pause button..teehee.  Once I got the hang of it, it was just a quick extra minute each day but it replaced flossing…and wasn’t painful.  My husband LOVES the unit, it gets to sit on his sink (read about our separate vanity issues) but he still lets me use it–Thank goodness.  I feel a good product solves a problem for you, I don’t think you will ever switch from your existing method of doing something unless the new device is better or cheaper or more efficient, etc.  Truly, I can tell you that the Waterpik Ultra Flosser beats even the BEST dental floss, hands down.  Of course, you can still keep your dental floss and use it occasionally if you want, BUT WHY WOULD YOU?

Would you try an Automatic Flosser?  Let us know what you think in the comments.

I’ve never owned a WaterPik before- I wish I did, because I hear they are the Ferrari of oral instigators- But I did want to say that I MUCH prefer oral irrigation to flossing. I know an astounding amount of people do not floss- this is the perfect way to get the family practicing perfect dental hygiene!

I *HATE* flossing, but this actually sounds like something I’d be happy to use. Perhaps I’ll look into getting one with birthday money!

This sounds great! I have a bonded tooth from an accident I was in during middle school, and flossing is a real pain for me. I will definitely check this out.

I was just having a conversation with a friend last week about flossing and what a pain it is. This sounds like such a great alternative. – Katy

I do not do reviews from a picture either. I don’t understand how people do that or why. It makes all of their reviews “tainted” I would think. Sometimes I will do a Giveaway without receiving the items but I state that clearly. Generally its because my dogs wouldn’t be interested or the item is too big or small for them but I know our readers might like to try it.

I would however love to try the waterpik for myself. Though it might make a funny video to try an use it on the girls who could really use it.

We had a Waterpik growing up and it sure looks different now. I used to get water all over the place. But my son is going to be getting braces and I think I need to invest in one.

Not if they know what’s good for them! LOL. I’m sure they’d be tempted, but I don’t think enough water comes out to be a big issue…if they gave in to temptation. 🙂
