1972 Cadillac Sedan Deville
American Car Brochures — Remember how Big and Lovely they were?
Women over 45–Can you remember your first car? Mine was a 1972 Caillac Deville like the one pictured above. It was an absolute TANK–it was even green! It was originally my grandfather’s, then he sold it to me. I was in two accidents in the car, neither my fault, where I was hit BY THE SAME PERSON! REALLY! My car suffered minor damage both times, with the other vehicle being totaled on the first accident. Did I mention this car was a tank? You could fit four adults in the back and three in the front. It was just awesomely huge.
Well today, my Aunt Judy(thanks) sent to me this link for this fantastic site which has all (well, quite a few) American Car brochures from all American made cars, pre-1990. It’s very well organized too, arranged by car Division, then year, then further broke down as need be. Ahh, for a car loving gal, this site with its richly scanned images, provided hours of fun. Can you find one of your old cars?
American Car Brochures
The cool thing is this site has nothing to sell, it is just an enthusiast displaying his collection of old car brochures! Very cool.
Here’s another one of mine:
1980 Chevrolet Citation (one of the first one’s made)
Did you find the brochure for your first car?

My first car was a used 1978 Buick LeSabre: vinyl roof, 8-track player, velour seats. I didn’t get it until right after college graduation. I ALWAYS had to drive to lunch at work, since I could fit up to six or seven people. I’d had it a couple of years and then it was stolen (in Houston…)! It was a car big enough to party in, I guess.
Great Story Patricia. Ah yes, the Buick Lesabre, a true boat…the biggest buick out there at the time except for the Park Avenue! Wow, that was a cool car. Did you look at the brochure and reminisce?
Love this!! I think one of our cars when I was a kid was a 73 Caddy. Good Lord. If you were driving uphill, you couldn’t see over the hood. LOL.
Oh no, you are so so right. THe doors alone weighed as much as today’s cars. You really had to slam those puppies!
