Xfinity TV Player App — Kids Programming Anywhere!

August 16, 2013 By Shelley Zurek 13 Comments

What if you Can’t Stream?

This Xfinity TV Player App post offers the following disclosure:  Comcast Cable Communications Management, LLC, through its contractor, Mom Central Consulting, provided a promotional item as a thank you to the blogger who made this post for participating in this campaign.  The opinions and experiences expressed in this post are solely the bloggers opinions, based on the blogger’s experiences and do not reflect any positions or opinions of Comcast Communications Management, LLC

Travel entertainment evolves! When I was young:

When I was little, and we used to travel in the summer, this is what I did in the car:

crossword Puzzle

Or I fought with my brother or ate or listened to my parents BORING radio stations or looked out the window or got car sick from reading.  I HATED TO TRAVEL.  If you traveled by plane, you prayed that the movie would be something you hadn’t seen.

When my kids were young:

Streaming Collage

Summer travel amusement for my kids started out with a small TV that plugged into the cigarette lighter for car trips.  Later on, our van had an onboard video which ran off of DVDs.  Both had their limitations, including hauling around of videos and dvds, watching the same thing over and over, and batteries dying on headphones.

Media watching today with Xfinity

xfinity

Families today, unlike my generation and my kids, have some incredible features and programming through Xfinity TV that work in the home and while on the go.  I know my kids would have loved the ability to have more variety and not have to hassle with the limitations of devices of their day.

Now, young children and their families can watch media on a slew of devices (tablets, smart phones, traditional TV, smart TV, computer, smart devices).  What I like best about my Xfinity account is the On Demand feature, where I can watch programs on TV that I want to watch, when I want to watch them.  But recently, I have downloaded the Xfinity TV player app for my Android phone and Android smart camera and been amazed at the shows I could get and watch anywhere!  (The app works on other smart device operating systems as well.)

Xfinity TV Player App great for trips with kids (and adults!)

We traveled to North Carolina, many times, when the kids were little to visit Bald Head Island.  Going through the mountains, even today, your phone signal will drop or be very weak in quite a few areas. When you have the Xfinity TV Player App on your smart device not only can you stream and watch them on the device but you can also DOWNLOAD your favorite shows, so that you don’t use so much air time and your programming is available in situations where you can’t stream media (in the air, in dead spots, when your minutes have run out). With over 1000 downloadable family-friendly shows, as long as you have Xfinity Digital TV and Streampix subscriptions, you are set to go.

What kinds of kid friendly shows are available for watching or downloading?

Family friendly TV shows include popular shows like:

  • Dora the Explorer
  • Angry Birds Toons
  • Sofia the First
  • Phineas and Ferb
  • Ben 10
  • Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
  • The Chica Show
  • Sid the Science Kid
  • Lazy Town
  • Pajanimals
  • My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

And when you download Xfinity programming to your device with the Xfinity TV player app you never worry about a video cutting out while you or your child is watching it again.

BUT IT’S TOO HARD!!

Actually, NO,  the technology of the Xfinity TV Player App is not hard at all!   Head over to Xfinity and you can see a to show you just how easy it is !

But my kids (or teens) will be watching inappropriate material!

Nope, wrong again. When my kids were young, there was very little to keep them from surfing into unsafe territory except for threats and keeping the computer in dining room facing out, so we could look at the screen at any time. But now, Xfinity has some amazing parental controls that lets you block adult content and even choose age appropriate content for your child.  If you head to Comcast’s parental controls microsite, Xfinity.com/parents you can find all kinds of information of what Xfinity has to offer in terms of parental controls and advice including:

  • Videos on how to restrict access to Xfinity TV content
  • Chat with expert  Dr. Rich, MD, MPH, founder of the Center on Media and Child Health (CMCH)
  • Suggetested ways to protect your children while on mobile devices, TV, or internet

Based on my experience I would definitely set the parental controls and set them HIGH!  Boys will be Boys, if you know what I mean, so don’t hesitate to be tough.

Are you watching your favorite programming on a TV player app yet?

No, I am not. Our DSL is slower than molasses and we have no G.
We live in the middle of nowhere in the mountains. G hasn’t found us yet.

We don’t have a TV player app. We only have Hulu and Netflix, so if those apps count then I guess we are lol.

We actually cut out all of our cable service, and exclusively watch programs through Amazon Prime or Hulu. Sometimes we wait a week to see the current episode, but I think it’s worth it for the cost (next to none), and the convenience!

Nope! There’s too much to keep up with…now I have to figure this out! I’m sure once I do, I’ll be watching it all the time. LOL.

I’m not watching any shows on a TV player App, but my kids do. I tend not to have a whole lot of time to watch TV, and when I do I like to watch it on a full-sized HD TV. 🙂

We just got our Dish cut off. The price was just far too expensive when you compare how much it costed versus how little we watched it. An app might work great for me and my family. 🙂
