Holiday Business Travel — Easing the Pain of Being Away

Holiday Business Travel can take its toll of your loved One
Holiday Business Travel — Showing Them You Care
My husband, Walt, has been traveling back and forth between Michigan and Baltimore. He hates to travel (he misses me!) and is far too big (6′ 6″) to be jammed in that little airplane seat. The beds at the hotel, while nice, are not ours. He overeats rich foods while traveling and often can’t stick to his exercise routine. What’ s worse, he often has to travel right up to the holidays. Here’s how to ease a business traveler’s stress and welcome them home.

Sneak in a Kleenex Brand Care Pack into any Business Traveler’s Bag (like I and our kids did for Walt!)
Holiday Business Travel — Top Ten Thoughtful Tips to Ease a Business Traveler’s Mind
1. Stay Germ Free — Make sure that they have a travel bottle of instant hand santizer gel for quick hand cleaning when traveling through a germy airport. Who wants a nasty cold or flu over the holidays gained from business travel?
2. Be Prepared — A travel package of Kleenex in every coat or jacket pocket, can be of many uses to the the traveler from wiping a sweaty brow after running through the airport to make a connection to wiping up a laptop spill. You could even wrap each tissue package in a bow to let them experience a little of the holiday.
3. Stay Dry — Stuff a small collapsible umbrella into their briefcase or carry-on. Nothing adds to the stress of a trip like having to travel WET! An umbrella is also great against a heavy snow shower.
4. Keep them Moving — Make an exercise DVD or email them links to their favorite kind of exercises or download a SURPRISE exercise app to their smart phone. This will also keep them in shape for all of those extra Christmas goodies that often appear around the office.
5. Be Available — Many times when people are traveling they can only call or be in contact at odd hours and odd places. Try to accept that they called and wanted to reach out. Especially at the holidays, a business traveler needs to feel part of the fun at home, whenever they can stay in touch.
6. Reduce the Guilt –Business travelers often experience guilt from being away from home and homefront responsibilities. Don’t pile it on when they call unless you absolutely MUST! Holidays decisions can really throw a wrench in this tip.
7. Help Them Eat Right — Find chain restaurants or nearby stores that carry healthy food to eat for meals or in the hotel room. Many times travelers overeat just because they don’t know their options. Let Google be your friend and prepare a list of helpful resources with links that they can consult on their computer or smart phone.
8. Fight Travel Boredom — Let’s face it, travel can be fun but most business travel is a big hassle and a bore. Make the trip more fun by sneaking in a puzzle or game into their carry-on, or sneak a new game app onto their smart phone. Not only are you showing you care, but it might keep them from pulling out their hair!
9. Provide Hydration — Holiday business travel is tough enough, but when going through airport security, you must also ditch your water bottle for security purposes. Keep them saying Fa-La-La by buying them a collapsible water bottle that they can then refill on the other side of the security check point.
10. Make Home feel Like Home — Many times when people travel, all they want to do is get home. When they walk in that door, make it feel like home with a smile, smells of great food, and wonderful music. Most travelers long to be Home for the Holidays, because no matter how far away you roam, if you want to be happy in a million ways, for the holidays you can’t beat home sweet home (or so the song goes).
