Snowmageddon, Snowpocalypse and Snowzilla! Help I need a Simple Start!

January 6, 2014 By Shelley Zurek 19 Comments

Cruise Season is coming, but first– a Simple Start

I was given a free one month subscription to Weight Watchers to try their new Simple Start plan and write about my experience.Though I was compensated for my time and commitment, all views, positive and negative, are my own.

Snowmaggedon Snowzilla Snowpocalypse 2

On the left above is the actual view from my window today, and on the right is how it looks in the spring.

It’s that time of year again!

Doesn’t this weather — Snowmaggeddon, Snowpocalypse, Snowzilla — make you just wish you could remake the weather or your house or how about a little change for you? Wouldn’t it be great to do something nice and simple for yourself that made you feel a little more like spring and a little less like Snowzilla?

My mind always drifts to a vacation…something with sand, snorkeling, and 80 degree temps.  Something like this:

My husband recently told me that he was taking me on a cruise for our 15th wedding anniversary. I AM SO PUMPED! 15 years ago we were scheduled to go on a cruise for our honeymoon but it got cancelled due to another Snowmaggeddon, Snowpocalypse, Snowzilla!

Uh-Oh!

Going on a cruise means sundresses, shorts, and bathing suits! Eek. I might need some kind of weight loss program so I can feel a little more snappy in all my cruise wear!

I discovered Simple Start by listening to Jessica Simpson!

The new Weight Watchers Simple Start Program seems like just the thing I need. I saw the cutest commercial with Jessica Simpson talking about Simple Start on TV. I also read an article in USA Today where she discusses how she is walking 10,000 steps a day and doing . She and I are built very much the same, so I thought I’d thought I would try what she is trying!

I have already started walking 10,000 steps a day. You can join in with me here on my Facebook page. I have a whole gang of readers who are stopping in everyday to talk about their steps! There’s one simple start.

Today I signed up for Simple Start and Downloaded the Weight Watchers Simple Start App!

Weight Watcher Choose a Simple Start Meal #SimpleStart

What is Simple Start?

Basically, the the way Weight Watchers Simple Start Choose works (as I understand it) is that I choose meals and snacks from the list — and eat them! It’s kind of no-brainer really. For Lunch, I just click on the “Lunch” meals tab, and then it shows me 15-20 meals complete with ingredients, cooking instructions, and substitutions to change up the recipe. They even include the Weight Watchers points but in the Simple Start program, you don’t have to pay attention to the points…you just pick a meal and eat it! BAHM! Isn’t that SIMPLE?

Weight Watcher Choose a Simple Lunch #SimpleStart
From the Lunch menu, I chose to make the Veggie Burger & Fruit Salad. I had hoped to go shopping to get all the ingredients for a few days of recipes…but ummm Snowmaggedon hit (see top picture again!). Still,  I was able to make the dish quite easily with what I had on hand.

Weight Watchers Veggie Burger and Fruit Salad #SimpleStart On the right is the Weight Watchers recipe photo, on the left is mine! Perfect great interpretation, right?

The Simple Start App goes right along with me!

Simple Start App #SimpleStart

If you have a smartphone you can download this app, take it with you to the grocery store and get all the food for you meals. I am making this Couscous with Chicken and Vegetable recipe soon. It’s so simple and so delicious looking, don’t you think? I don’t have to count points or calories or anything. I just buy the ingredients, make it and eat it! Whoot! I love how simple it is!  If you don’t have a smartphone, don’t worry. The website has all the meals listed there as well.

Psst! I can still have my Wine!!

Every night I might…okay I do…always  usually have a glass of wine in the evening. Simple Start lets me have treats!  I can have 5 oz glass of wine everyday if I wish! (The plan includes some little indulgences!)

WHY NOT TRY THE Simple Start with me?

Women over 45 and all our younger friends, wouldn’t you like to make a change for the New Year that isn’t difficult? I’ll be letting you know over the next couple of weeks how I like the program. Follow along okay? I could use the encouragement! I am working to feel a little more like spring for my cruise instead of Snowpocalypse!

Your first picture describes it perfectly. While we aren’t covered in snow, it’s cold and windy here. I am dreaming of a warm, sunny day. It’s observe the weather day, and I’m wishing I was observing beach weather. Of course, that does mean – like you said – less clothes and showing more. Guess I better be thinking about that. “Simply start” is a great term, and even better being able to have wine or treats or it,too.

Mmmm, that veggie burger looks delicious! And congrats on your cruise! I love that I can refer right to the app if I need to in the store. And the indulgences are a piece of heaven in my day. LOL

This program sounds fantastic! I absolutely love the idea of not counting points but just saying, hey I will eat that or that! I am following along and by the way, there is NO doubt in my mind that you can do this! I think you are off to a terrific start! And because of your 10,000 steps/day program, I have taken the stairs two days in a row instead of the escalators! That might sound trite, but even just doing that made me feel good. And that, my dear, is because of your program!!

I am really loving the Simple Start method from Weight Watchers. I struggle tracking foods, so this is making it a lot easier for me! Especially easing into picking better foods without having to worry about counting calories, or trying to figure out portions right away. I can just ease into it by eating great healthier food choices.

I think the tracking would discourage me too Amber. Shelley

Back in the dark ages of my life I used Weight Watches to lose 50lbs. It is, I believe, the best weight loss program there is. Good luck – although I do think you look fantastic as you are.

I love how simple the Simple Start app is, and portable for on the go consulting. Gone are the days of stuffy point counting, it’s great to see refreshing meal ideas that I can actually prepare and enjoy. Just looking at those colorful food options, I’d be dreaming of a cruise too!
