How do you Share a Bathroom with your Spouse (or Roommate) and still Live to see the Light of Day?
First recommendation. Each person should have a separate bathroom. That’s right. That creates perfect bliss. However, given that most people do not have endless budgets, separate bathrooms are not a reality. Hmmm, so how do you preserve the separate bathroom concept and still SHARE the same room? Have a Vanity Designs for bathrooms design plan!
1. If possible, have separate Bathroom Vanities

Yes, that’s right, each person has their own vanity, preferably separated by a tub, shower, or window. This arrangement is the closest way to having your own bathroom while sharing a bathroom. When it comes to Vanity Sinks it is so important for each person to have their own, also their own set of drawers, their own mirror and their own counterspace. Invariably, one of you is a PIG and the other is a neatnik. The separate bathroom vanities saves you all kinds of arguments (until you actually look at their counter, sink or mirror and its COVERED in toothpaste and hair!) and aids in the sharing of a bathroom!
2. If separate Vanities are not possible, due to financial considerations or budget constraints, the next option is to have a double sink in a single vanity:
with each sink having its own set of drawers, it’s own portion of the mirror and its own counterspace. This almost is like having separate vanities for each person, but has the potential for crossover yuck and spillover from the messy person to the neat person–never a good choice. Ample counter space is the key to success for this option!
3. If you absolutely must share a sink with your spouse, make the countertop and vanity underneath as LARGE as possible.
DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT go with one of those TOTALLY useless pedestal sinks, which are so beautiful and so worthless. No counterspace and no storage could end a marriage..well maybe not that bad, but it will be the start of endless fights.
4. If you must share a Pedestal or wall sink, with no counterspace and no storage underneath,

try to find a way where each person can have shelf space to store their personal items. I once shared a pedestal sink with 3 other girls in one shared bathroom. The only reason we didn’t kill each other was that we had a large narrow shelf in the bathroom where each of us could store all of our bathroom related items.
How do you solve your Vanity issues in your Household to preserve everyone’s sanity?
My house is full of boys and one girl…me. I have banished the males to the large bathroom and I get the small one. It keeps the peace.
We’re lucky to have separate bathrooms. It helps to also separate the entire dressing process.
we do share, we only have one sink, but it works, he has his shelves and I have mine, he has the left side of the sink vanity and I have the right.. it works. smiles
We share a full en-suite bath that is actually pretty narrow. We survive because I keep all my beauty junk (except shampoo, bodywash, etc) in the half bath downstairs. I also blow dry in the downstairs bath
we have the double sink vanity too – growing up in our small house I didn’t even know those existed til I got married and we built a house 😀
I work it out easily, I have a double sink with a long vanity. Only one set of drawers, though. But it doesn’t matter because it’s just me. I don’t have to share. Does that bother me? Not really.

We have a dual sink cabinet; I have my own vanity on the other side of the room! We each get our own space!
We have 4 bathrooms in our family house. My dad is super clean and my sister, mom, and I never have any trouble…we’re bathroom readers too!

I guess we don’t really have this problem. We have two bathrooms. My mom and dad have 2 sinks in theirs, and that keeps them happy!
we have 1 bathroom w/shower for 7 of us, i cant imagine having 2 or even 3 bathrooms! that would be nice!

Ugh…I have one of those really nice but USELESS pedestal sinks. I’m grinding my teeth just thinking about it. In fact, the whole bathroom just STINKS! It’s awkwardly shaped and there’s only room (I swear) for a small shelf unit to hang above the toilet, period.
ARGH! I hate that bathroom!

Any room for an over the toilet shelf, over the door shelf, or multiple towel bars? I found that Ikea is amazing for neat storage ideas.

Hmmm…I’ll have to look into the over the door shelf. It has a little hook on the back of the door, which, as you can imagine, is pretty much useless. I don’t know if I can fit an over-toilet shelf, but I’ll measure. The hanging shelf is ridiculously low, so it does not leave much room. But I’ll definitely try to re-think storage in there!!
This made me giggle a little. The only time I have had to share with a guy it was alright and we didn’t have a problem at all. I still wonder at that….and he didn’t leave the toilet seat up either 😉

Although we have 4 bathrooms for just the 2 of us, we still share one….We both have our own sinks & drawers…..but I have a habit of spreading out….I know I’ve overstepped my bounds, when I walk in & find a pile of stuff on my side & a piece of blue tape down the center….
It works out great. My husband has the bathroom by our bedroom, which has a very large double vanity, and I have the other one that I share with my son. The one I use has great lighting for makeup and hair, and so I am happy about that.
