Michelle Obama Official Portrait 2013 features the “Mid-Life Crisis Bangs”

Michelle Obama has now confessed WHY she decided to get bangs in a February 19, 2013,  interview with Rachel Ray.  Michelle told Rachel:

“This is my mid-life crisis, the bangs. I couldn’t get a sports car. They won’t let me bungee jump. So instead, I cut my bangs!”

If you remember we blogged about Michelle’s new bangs in our post entitled Hairstyles for Women over 45: Michelle Obama Bangs, How Tos.  The bangs, which have taken on a life on their own appeared right before the Inauguration and her 49th birthday.

This 2013 Photo was released today, February 20, 2013, via official White House sources including via the White House Flicker and the @Flotus twitter feed.  I am quite sure that Michelle Obama will draw widespread praise and criticism as she usually does.  In 2009, the Michelle Obama Official Portrait  “arm” picture drew criticism as some thought Michelle’s well toned arms were too prominently featured.

I posted this article today before critiques were out on the 2013 photo.  I personally like it very much.  I think it is understated, friendly, ladylike and modern.

What do you think of the 2013 photo?  Please comment below!

Which Official Portrait  do you like the best? 2013? 2009? Women over 45 and all our younger friends, let us know.  Please weigh in with your opinions!!  We are dying to know what you think!  Please bear in mind this is a post about FASHION.  It is not political.

I love her. She seems so beautiful inside-and-out. She looks good with or without bangs!

I love the new style, too, and agree, it’s very classy and modern.

I like her 2009 portrait. Not because I don’t love the bangs, I just like the full length shot better.

It is hard to judge. In the bangs picture next to the one from last year, I’d have to say she looks better in the older one. However, almost all the other pics I’ve seen with her bangs, she looks great.

I thought she was lovely before but those bangs bring out her beauty even more so than the previous hair style.

I love her bangs. They look fabulous and if I could get bangs that looked that good – I’d go for them too!

    Have a wonderful weekend,

I love what she said about cutting her bangs. She mentioned it was a result of a mid-life crisis and they wouldn’t let her buy a sports car or bungee jump so she cut her bangs. She said it with a sense of humor so it was pretty funny.

They seriously thought her toned arms were too prominent? Seriously? Who cares! So she’s got toned arms. Good for her.

That being said, I think I like her bangs. She wears them well.

I prefer the Bangs portrait. She looks so much more down to earth in that picture, and it suits her personality more.

I think the bangs are great (maybe I’m biased because I just had bangs cut too!)

She looks softer, kinder and timeless in the 2013 portrait. Of course, she’s beautiful and relevant not matter what she wears or does with her hair.

I may be biased, but I love the bangs. Not that she doesn’t have rockin arms, but love the bangs on her. She is such a beautiful lady.

I’m torn. She’s stunning in both pictures, but so different. I really can’t pick one, because each is beautiful in its own right. W said the 2009 picture, however, although he agrees she looks great in both.

Mrs O looks FABULOUS and the bangs bring out her girlish side. Not that I’m saying this is the case for Mrs First Lady Michelle Obama, but when women begin to show lines on their foreheads they’ll opt for bangs to cover them up. Have you heard of the catch phrase question Bangs vs Botox?

    Thanks for posting this Shelley.

I like the 2013 photo better because of the softer hair style. Being closer up, it also makes her seem more approachable.

Love both pictures, just like you. I voted for the bangs picture, but not because of the bangs or the arms – because it is a close-up. I prefer that seated version better than the full-body standing version. But, I’m still jealous of those arms!
