Problems Posting Links In Facebook? Why Won’t my URLS post on Facebook?

[ 5 ] September 15, 2011 |

Are you having Problems Posting Links in Facebook?  URLS just won’t work?

Problems-posting-links-in-facebookWhat I do when I have Problems Posting links in Facebook

Quick Tip to TRY to fix your Problems Posting Links in Facebook!

1) Paste the link into your comment or status

2.)  Put the link into  brackets or parenthesis  like this <link>

3.  Hit Enter.  Refresh to make sure it posts

4.  Viola!  90% of the time, this will fix your Problems Posting Links in Facebook!

I have had problems posting links in Facebook.  It won’t post my links unless I put my words inside of brackets, or parenthesis or arrows.  See picture above.   I like to use the arrows as I imagine in my mind that people like to find out where arrows are pointing.  I know there is probably some REALLY big techie explanation for why this solves the Facebook problem.  WHO CARES?  It solves my problems posting links in Facebook and gets me on my merry little way! Actually, Pat Flynn over at Smart Passive Income suggested this to me in a Facebook post and I have used it ever since.  Thanks Pat!

WAHHHH!  My Link still won’t post!!!  Sometimes URLs just won’t post to Facebook.  Why?

1.)  You have posted a link too many times in too short of a timeframe

2.)  You are in Facebook “Prison” because for some reason Facebook thinks you are spammy.  If offered Captcha–make sure to complete

3)   It’s not you, it’s Facebook.  I have found that sometimes just waiting  few days or hours clears up a lot of Facebook problems.

4.)  As a last resort, you may need to follow through with Facebook to discover the problem.  Good luck, they are notoriously hard to get in touch with!

Oh, if you have other Facebook problems you may want to check out my other simple Facebook tips!

Other things Mark Zuckerberg said today: What kind of cool Stuff can you build?  What kind of wireless infrastructure?  It’s about who the active users are.  Who is using your structure?  Seem to be talking a lot about measurement.

An underlying trend–the rate of sharing is increasing.  Look at plot–growing exponentially.  About twice what they shared a year ago.  Gives the example of folding a peice of paper 50 times is actually as tall as 10 times to the moon and back and parellels that to the amount each person is sharing.  You really need to look at this on an Logarithmic graph.  He compares Facebook sharing to Intel, so FB needs to figure out what kind of apps will be needed in the future so they can start building for it now.

Mark on Google+1–A lot of companies, will be coming forward with apps.  With the social infrastructure in place, many will try to build some of their own.  This is the way the next 5 years will build out.

Facebook News Flash: 100 Characters Can Now be used for Page Tab App Names

[ 12 ] June 15, 2011 |

Oh Happy Day!  You can now change the titles on third Party Tab Apps to be more Descriptive!

Here is what you had to live with before:

Facebook Tabs

Extremely short (16 character) Tab Descriptions were very limiting.  Sure, shorter is better but sometimes you just need to say more.  Facebook has now revised Page Tabs for Third Party Apps ONLY (not Facebooks own Wall, Photo, Video, Discussion, Notes Tabs) such that you have 100 characters to utilize!  You can do a lot of explaining in 100 characters.  Here’s the new result for the Facebook page of Still Blonde after all these YEARS!

Facebook Tabs new

See how my Welcome Page went from “Welcome” to “Welcome to the Blondeness”,  See how my networked blogs tab went from “Blog” to “Still Blonde after all these YEARS Blog”  and see how “Shows” (which sounded pretty skanky to me before) now says “Facebook Meetups”  and do want to know the best part?  I could now easily change that to “Facebook Meetup is at 9:45 EST Tonight”.  Great advertising right?  Also helps with confusion when people want to come to your page to find something!  Come to my Facebook page, “Like” me, and take a look!  (How did you like that shameless plug?)

Will you be changing your Page Tabs to a longer description?

Stop! Don’t Use Networked Blogs, RSS Graffiti, or any other Feed Aggregator to Post on Facebook!

[ 75 ] April 13, 2011 |

Use of a Feed aggregator (Networked Blogs, RSS Graffiti, Youtube self Posting, Twitter, etc) for Facebook Posting is keeping your Posts from being seen!

LOOK what is happening!  Facebook is posting the BEST status updates (by their Edge Rank) or the first Networked Blogs post and then grouping the rest together.  They have been doing this for awhile but now it’s really happening  in a huge way.  They are not just grouping all of one pages statuses together now Facebook is grouping ALL Feed aggregator blogs posts that I get in a given time period together.

What’s the impact when you use feed aggregator posting like Networked Blogs, RSS Graffiti, etc?

Your posts are NOT being seen by your intended audience and if advertisers are paying you to post, they aren’t getting their bang for their buck either. Mari Smith, everyone’s Facebook Guru, recommends against using a feed aggregator on a regular basis:

Just be careful of overly using third party apps to post all your content on your Page wall. Manual posts get the best EdgeRank (News Feed optimization).

(And then she further commented on her Facebook on April 25, 2011):
Did you know? Your content posted via third party apps may be hidden (collapsed) in the News Feed of your fans!! e.g. It’s best not to automatically publish your Networked Blog posts to your wall – your fans may not see the content in their News Feed. I definitely recommend you use the app for great SEO, but turn off the wall posting feature and manually share your new blog posts directly on your wall for better visibility and engagement. (Aside from the collapsed posts in the News Feed of your fans, third party app posts get slightly lower EdgeRank scores anyway… unfortunately!)
..

and now you can see why!  Your page’s Facebook wall feed may not show that your posts are being being mushed in with all the other Networked blog feeds, or twitter feeds…so you may think that using your particular feed aggregator is no problem.  It isn’t.  See the example above and below.

What about Hoot Suite, a very popular tweet and post scheduler?  I have not observed the stacking of Hoot Suite posts but I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the same.  Can anyone else confirm from their newsfeed?

Should you be using a Facebook Aggregator for posting your blog posts to Facebook?

Update April 2011:

Here’s an interesting quote dated April 11, 2011 from What’s Next Marketing, Check it out:

Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, and other self-publishers use the 3rd Party API to provide their members the ability to post to Facebook Pages without going onto the site itself. Those services have even added the ability to schedule content to be auto-published at a later set time.

While very convenient for users, Facebook sees little reason to give this scheduled content a high EdgeRank weight. And why should they? Users aren’t going to the Facebook website, engaging with the infrastructure, or viewing Facebook Advertising. According to our recent research, manually posting content on Facebook, rather than via  a 3rd Party API publisher like Tweetdeck and Hootsuite, can increase its viewership as much as 300%!

UPDATE Feb, 2011:

Here’s some more information from MaAnna, owner of Blogaid, who wrote the an article on 3rd party APIs (feed Aggregators) called Google and Facebook changed and so must I.

Two of my fave folks to follow on Facebook are Denise Wakeman and Mari Smith. Recently, both have made several posts on the negative impact of using third party apps to auto-populate your Facebook business page with blog posts from your main site. The app-populated posts weren’t showing up in the fan’s News Feed consistently, and the ranking was devalued by Facebook….After making the changes, within two weeks my Facebook stats nearly tripled quadrupled and they continue to keep going up.

Update: Feb. 2011

Denise Wakeman, from the Blog Squad weighed in with this additional information:

Here’s the link to my post in which I share why I’m giving up on automation to my Facebook page:
http://www.buildabetterblog.com/2011/02/im-giving-up-on-automation.html

Please note that I continue to use Social RSS to auto post to my Page, but NOT to my wall. If someone wants to see my latest blog posts they can click on the link in the left sidebar to see recent content.

The Chief Blonde recommends against it heavily, based on what she has observed on Facebook today!

UPDATE: May 2011

You can also increase your views on your Facebook Posts by 650% by stopping this practice of utilizing a feed aggregator.   See this great article on NOT autoposting via third party APIs.

UPDATE 9/2011:

A Recent Mashable Article Reports that   a study by  Applum, creators of the Facebook Edgerank Checker, studied  a million+ Facebook updates on over  50,000 Facebook Pages  to test the hypothesis that posting to  via Facebook  third-party feed Aggregators won’t create the same interaction as posting manually to Facebook.   Applum determined that utilizing ANY of the top ten feed aggregators resulted in  88% fewer comments and likes, when contrasted with manually posting to Facebook.   WHY?  It’s suspected that Facebook punishes feed aggregators in the complex Edgerank alogorithm .  Often,  Facebook updates from feed aggregators are smushed into ONE SINGLE FEED story.  Although a couple of my blogger friends who use the feed aggregators have recently noticed that in their feed, Facebook has stopped this practice of collapsing all the feed into one.

Was this post useful to you?  Could you Stumble it  or Like it (buttons just below)?  The Chief Blonde love you too!

Hate the New Facebook Lightbox Photo Viewer? Here’s how to Easily, Manually, Turn it Off!

[ 30 ] March 7, 2011 |

Isn’t the new Facebook Lightbox Photo Viewer ANNOYING?

New Facebook Lightbox Photo Viewer

I’m  not sure what it is, but it just looks like some kind of old movie screen or a piece of crappy black grade school construction paper.  A lot of people have mentioned to me they don’t care for it!  Something I noticed was that you can’t save images from this view either, I constantly am doing that!   You know what?  You don’t have to look at pictures this way.  Just refresh your screen.  WHAT?  Yes, just refresh your Screen!

Refresh Button

Mozilla Firefox has a refresh button (all browsers do)  like the blue circle arrow above (see where the big red arrow is pointing), just click it and your page refreshes….and PRESTO CHANGO.. Your pictures will know look like this (the old photo view!)

Old Facebook Photo Viewer

Ahh, isn’t that so much better???  The bonus is that you can left click and “Save Image” from this view as well.  Also, if you are viewing an entire alblum–it stays in this view.  How convenient is that?  LOVE IT!

Want to know more permanent, fancy upscale extensions for your browser that you can add.  Check out this excellent article from Makeuseof.com which discusses Turning off the Facebook Photo Viewer.    For me, “Refresh” is a quick easy fix and that’s what I am doing  for now.

How about you?
