Still Blonde small Chief Blonde Remarks: When the Chief Blonde and her Technical Editor hit the CES floor on opening day, the first area they hit is the iLounge Pavilion.  While the area does feature many Apple related products (as you may know, Apple does not attend the International CES but has it own event, MacWorld 2011), it also highlights many gadgets that work across all the whole tablet/smart phone/mp3 platforms.  I love this part of the show!  For 50,000+ sq feet of space to sell out in 2 hours…you have to know this is HOT part of the show.

Are you a massive consumer electronics geek like me?  Do you live for the moment that you can walk the aisles of a consumer electronics hall and find the latest and greatest technology,  EVEN IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT?  Of course, secretly you are planning your next 10 years of Christmas gifts. Are you a Women over 45 or anyone else, who just can’t live ONE day without your tech gadgets?  I have been attending the International CES in Las Vegas  for 4 years, last year for the first time as a blogger.  See my video below:

What is this show about?  According to International CES website:

With more than four decades of success, the International CES reaches across global markets, connects the industry and enables CE innovations to grow and thrive.

The International CES is produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the preeminent trade association promoting growth in the consumer technology industry. CEA represents more than 2,000 corporate members involved in the design, development, manufacturing, distribution and integration of consumer electronics products. All profits from CES are reinvested into industry services, including technical training and education, industry promotion, engineering standards development, market research and legislative advocacy.

What is this the International CES 2011 about according to the Chief Blonde, a woman over 45?

The CES is 4 super fun days of mega-consumer electronics overload.  In one place, you literally take a trip around the world of electronics–seeing the future.  It’s a grown-up’s Disneyland.  Investors will love it as it points you to new companies to invest in.  Bloggers will love the CES as the story ideas are fresh, and an eager audience awaits to hear your opinion of the show.  Blondes love it, well because we love EVERYTHING fresh and new.  Women over 45 love it because we can see what technology is out there as we enter the vintage years of our lives and actually can spend some of our disposable income on ourselves!

WILL YOU BE ATTENDING?  Let’s meet up for a Blogger Power Lunch!

Sing2Learn Review

[ 0 ] July 22, 2010

Fun. Effective. Powerful.  A great way to learn Foreign Languages

(Posted by Technical Editor: W. Zurek)

sing2learn

Women over 45, Learn a Foreign Language through Singing!

Sing2Learn combines three innovative methods to make learning easy, fun, and interesting: Sing2Learn, Sing2Pattern, and Sing2Picture. Sing2Learn uses singing to make the learning process fun and easy. Learners mimic what they hear with very little stress or mental processing. Sing2Pattern allows learners to create hundreds of sentences from simple sentence patterns and syllable patterns. Sing2imageture uses the power of visualization to enhance learners’ memorization skills through visually stimulating graphics.  All of the songs are 100% original and they emphasize simplicity, clarity, and a comfortable pace for easy learning, and are creative — which makes it fun and easy to learn.

Watch the video, Have some fun!

Still Blonde smallChief Blonde Remarks:

Sing2Learn is just what it says.  You are learning while you are singing.  Now we all know how we remember the most trivial songs, tv jingles, and radio ads that are set to music.  I’ll bet you can still sing the Big Mac song–”2 all Beef Patties…”  or how about  the Brady Bunch theme  “Here’s the story, of a lovely Lady,….”.   So you can certainly see why the Sing2Learn concept was very interesting to me when I first viewed it at the CES.

Christopher Boyd Brewer in his book Music and Learning says that music can help us learn because it will–

  • establish a positive learning state
  • create a desired atmosphere
  • build a sense of anticipation
  • energize learning activities
  • change brain wave states
  • focus concentration
  • increase attention
  • improve memory
  • facilitate a multisensory learning experience
  • release tension
  • enhance imagination
  • align groups
  • develop rapport
  • provide inspiration and motivation
  • add an element of fun
  • accentuate theme-oriented units

When you couple your knowledge of how music that you have learned has STUCK with you through the years with clear research on the Music and learning concepts–who can argue that a child or a Women over 45 can learn a foreign language or at the very least the common phrases with Sing2Learn?!

See what you will look like in 30 years!

Want a Peek into the Future? Simulate an Older You for Free with In20Years.com

Chief Blonde aged 30 years

First Online Application to Show Real Photos 20, 30 Years into the Future

Ever wonder what you will look like in 20 years? How about 30? Luxand Inc., developer of MakeMeBabies.com and http://PicTreat.com, is launching In20Years.com, a new free website that simulates the effects of time on the photo subject’s face, prompting the tagline “See You…In 20 Years!” When the user uploads a photo, the application automatically recognizes and transforms facial structures to make the subject of the photo appear to be 20 or 30 years older, depending on the user’s choice.

In the pictures above the Chief Blonde has aged herself 30 years!  I took a picture of my self when I was 24 (1/2 a lifetime ago) and aged myself to 54.  I took another of myself at 47 and aged myself to 77.  Ha!  I am not getting older, I am getting better.  Wanna try it on yourself?  Your husband?

To see what he/she will look like in the future, the user simply selects a few parameters (including gender and how many years into the future) and uploads a photo of his/her face. Click the link to see the results—a fully aged version of the photo the user uploaded. The application requires no registration and is available for free.

“We’re all curious about our futures, so why not start with something today’s technology can loosely predict?” said Alex Konoplev, CEO of Luxand. “In20Years is a fun application that lets us visualize how we might look in the future and share these pictures with our friends.”

For a little extra fun, Luxand includes a “drug addict” option, which combines the effects of aging and years of drug use to offer a truly frightening look into the future.  (ALthough you may find it hard to believe the Chief Blonde did not use the “Years of Drug Use option”!)

Based on Luxand face detection and morphing technologies, the In20Years engine automatically detects facial features in a photo and then runs algorithms to transform each feature to appear as it might in 15 or 30 years. It is compatible with any size photo at any resolution.

Still Blonde imageChief Blonde Remarks:  Fun application.  Try it out and send me copies, I promise not to post.  You don’t have to sign up to try it.  Some of their other applications you do though, so take note of that.

WikiReader–Last Minute Holiday Gift Idea & Aid for Rural Community Libraries in Asia

[ 0 ] December 16, 2009

Useful Fun Tech Gift is Guaranteed

to Please Everyone on your Holiday List

November 24, 2009  (S. Zurek)

WikiReader is the ideal stocking stuffer for the holidays

Note:  This article is part of our continuing series in preparation for the 2010 CES in Las Vegas, NV.

Moms, Dads, grandparents, students, businesspeople, travelers…everyone would love to have information at their fingertips. And now they can have it anytime, anywhere.

Introducing the WikiReader, a small, lightweight touch-screen device that holds all 3.1 million Wikipedia articles and it’s only $99 on Amazon.
It’s like an encyclopedia in the palm of your hand that works everywhere.  About the size of a man’s wallet, the WikiReader has three buttons, Search, History and Random and uses an on-screen keyboard so you can type in your search and satisfy your curiosity cravings.  Or just hit the Random button and get lost in a wealth of articles that delight, intrigue and educate.

WikiReader in hand- Openmoko announced today that during this holiday season, for each WikiReader sold, they will donate a WikiReader to Rural Education and Development (READ) Global – a non-profit organization. They pledge to reach each and every one of READ’s library and resource centers in India, Nepal and Bhutan.

WikiReader contains the more than three million English language articles of Wikipedia on an easy-to-use battery-powered device to be enjoyed immediately anytime, anywhere without requiring an Internet connection, making it ideal for information-hungry students and villagers in communities where electricity and connectivity may be inconsistent or non-existent.

READ Centers will offer the WikiReader in its Community Library and Resource Centers, enabling villagers to discover a world of information previously unknown.  Each center is partnered with a community initiated and managed for-profit business enterprise that generates income to cover the expenses of the READ Center, enabling enterprising villagers to earn a living while supporting the READ Center.

WikiReader donation to Read GLOBAL villages in AsiaIn 2006, READ Nepal received the prestigious Access to Learning Award from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which subsequently awarded READ Global a four-year replication grant to expand the organization’s unique model around the world. The donation of WikiReader leaves READ Global with only $51,000 needed from supporters to meet the  Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation challenge grant, and receive their 2010 installment to open a new program in Cambodia.

“Openmoko’s WikiReader is very useful for the libraries, in part because it does not depend on the internet, it is like having handheld copies of the encyclopedia, and is easy to use,” said Rural Education and Development Global Founder, Dr. Antonia Neubauer.  “Not only will this be a wonderful resource for the students, but for their teachers, who often do not have resource materials.”

“READ Global has provided our customers with a wonderful opportunity to help make a difference. We’re so excited to bring Wikipedia into the lives of children and adults who share a common love of learning and a passionate desire to make the world known.” said Openmoko CEO, Sean Moss-Pultz.  “WikiReader’s refreshing simplicity, contrasted with its unparalleled breadth of information, should provide plenty of inspiration for people of all ages.”

WikiReader turns on instantly, and works for months before replacement of its two AAA batteries is necessary. Articles on the large monochrome touchscreen are scrolled with a stroke of the finger and hyperlinks selected with a simple touch. Three buttons, Search, History and Random, offer the convenience of reading specific topics or the serendipitous pleasure of discovering something by chance within Wikipedia’s rich array of topics.  Updates for the WikiReader are provided quarterly and available for free download via their website. A yearly subscription plan for updated microSD cards is also available for $29.  WikiReader is available for $99 at http://thewikireader.comAmazon.

Chief Blonde’s Remarks:  Hard to imagine that much information in a little device that is just smidge larger than a pack of cards.  A back light would be nice and typing is a little tricky at first, but truly this device is addictive.  The more you use it,,the more you use it!  Not really necessary when you have a computer around but great in your purse, playing games, doing crosswords, for trivia, etc.  Super easy to use and navigate.  Good for kids doing reports.  I can see it would be extremely useful in the charitable situations mentioned in this article.  No need to keep a large library of outdated encyclopedia around when you can just give each school or schoolroom this device which can be updated each year with a new card!  A for my money, and my charitable donation, anything the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation participates in is GOLDEN in my mind.  Highly recommend.

(W. Zurek)
In Preparation for the 2010 Consumers Electronic Show, we are running a series of articles onconsumers electronics which may be important to Women over 45!

Together with data from leading product comparison sites PriceGrabber and Like.com, Permuto, a search-style display advertising platform, has released an “Active Shopper Report” on consumer electronics, revealing the top 20 products trending this holiday season. The report also shows that 4 out of 5 shoppers plan to purchase a consumer electronic product, at an average price of $222 – and that the price of these goods has dropped, not just from 2008, but since last month.
The Nintedo Wii tops the list, with personal navigation systems and digital cameras not far behind.
