Fashion Mistakes–Women over 45–2010 1st quarter Book Review

[ 0 ] March 22, 2010
3 Terrible Too’s that will Derail a Women’s Career.

Any of 3 fashion mistakes will derail a woman’s career faster than outing the boss’ new hairpiece, yet every office in America has these career-challenged fashion victims and someone should let them know it’s the number one roadblock to career success for women. Maggie Jessup, a personal branding expert and author of the new book Fame 101 (Sutton Hart Press 2010) does just that in her new book.

Every office in America has one or more women with the Terrible Too’s:

Too much style – They think insanely expensive, a big logo, and the latest New York fashion is right for a middle manager in Phoenix.

Some women in business believe that because they spend insane amounts to wear the latest styles from New York their career look just couldn’t be better. They’re wearing the Rolls Royce of outfits and if anyone doubts how great they look they must be mistaken because these are “this year’s colors” or “how they’re wearing slacks in New York” and after all, “they’re Jimmy Choos”. Unfortunately many of these styles only look good if you’re an underweight 6 foot 19 year old and very few women in business fall into this category. The style rule you must follow to look great and have presence is to make wardrobe decisions based on what looks good on you; with what’s in style only a secondary consideration.

Too young – A fifty year old insurance exec shouldn’t shop at Forever 21; no one will take her seriously!

This wardrobe trap can snare even the smartest of women in business and it is deadly for a career. A simple example will make the point. If you are a forty five year old office manager, don’t shop at Forever 21. For some reason a surprising number of women believe they can take off 10 years by dressing 20 years younger; when actually the opposite is true. It may be fun but you will never achieve the look you’ll need to be a leader in your field. The people who could put your career on the fast track won’t take you seriously. This is about appropriateness; dress just right for your age.

Too bad hair – A home perm, budget dye, and $20 cut will block the route to a corner office every time; moonlight if you must to afford the best appropriate cut.

We live in a hair-obsessed society; yours must be great or at least really good. Have you ever had someone look at your new cut or style and say “Ouch, that’s too bad?” Likely not, because even your best friend will lie to you about this career-builder or career-killer for women in business. So what can you do to get that great look? Follow a few simple rules: Never do a home perm, under no circumstances have your best friend dye your hair, if you have the same cut you had in high school it is wrong, and work nights at the Dairy Queen if you must so that you can afford a quality style, cut, and color.

REVIEW: MAGNAPODS™ WOMEN OVER 45– GET ORGANIZED!

[ 0 ] February 28, 2010

Magnetic Organizers For The Home

Chief Blonde and Blogger Review:  When I first heard about this little product, MagnaPods, I was so excited to review it.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE  organizers, so I had high hopes for these little babies!   Well when the box of three MagnaPods  arrived for my review I was not the least bit disppointed!
The package itself was not very big, but contained the three organizers shown above.  MagnaPods were neatly packaged.  I found the clear plasitic product was well made with powerful  magnets in the back. Definitely not cheesy.  This product would be great in any woman’s medicine cabinet who is challenged for space and just needs one more place to store cosmetic items.  Something else that was neat was that the dividers in the MagnaPods could be moved within the unit to create storage pockets that are just the right size for your items!  Also, no matter how many times, the medicine cabinet door was slammed or yanked open, these wonderful MagnaPods did not move NOR did the cosmetic items in them!  Yippee!  A product that really helps us Menopausal and Post-Menopausal stay organized–and remember where we put things–I don’t know about you but that alone would make me buy them!  Tee Hee!  $9.99 on Amazon and the MagaPod website!
What the Company has to say:  A place for everything and everything in its place.  That is the basic philosophy behind MagnaPods™, a line of high quality plastic storage units that are designed to store and organize cosmetics and personal care items.  MagnaPods™ magnetically adhere to the inside of steel framed medicine cabinets and are the perfect solution to help organize cosmetics, make-up brushes, Q-tips, lip products, toothbrushes and more.
The majority of consumers today, particularly women, own a large quantity of beauty and grooming products and toiletries.  More often than not, these items begin to overtake bathroom drawers and cabinets, creating a cluttered mess where nothing can be found.
MagnaPods™  Organizers come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are ideal for storing mascara, lipsticks, brushes, tweezers, and other personal care items.  Available with adjustable divider walls, they are perfect for customizing to fit all spaces.   Each of the Cosmetic Organizing Sets include 3 individual storage units.  The MagnaPods™   Toothbrush Holders come in a variety of colors and fit all sized toothbrushes, including those with larger handles.
“For years, each and every morning I would open my medicine cabinet and be overrun by the amount of junk that would fall out on me,” said Robin Wilhelm, creator of MagnaPods™   “After a job layoff, I realized it was time to finally create a product that seems so simple, yet was sorely missing from my life.  I wanted to create a solution that would remove some of the daily chaos from my home.”
MagnaPods™  Organizers are a necessary accessory for any bathroom that needs organization, perfect for apartment dwellers who do not have a lot of space and women who must have all the latest beauty tools.

MagnaPods are available online at www.magnapods.com

PRODUCT REVIEW: bareMINERALS BISQUE SPF 20 Multi-Tasking Concealer–GREAT FOR COVERING ROSACEA

[ 0 ] October 4, 2009

I have always had perfect skin.  No acne.  Never spent time in the sun.  People were always commenting on my skin.  Then menopause hit–then rosacea.  You probably have it too, if you are of a certain age.  Rosacea can look like a flush, or pimples that won’t pop, or like you have been drinking a lot and your nose is red.  Whatever…its embarrassing.  Especially for someone who has never had to deal with one minute of bad skin.

So after trying everything…I am sitting there one morning…really early…watching a bareMinerals infomercial..thinking why not?  I ‘ll go buy it at ULTA and if I hate it, I’ll take it back…believe me I take TONS of stuff back.  Well, I can tell you and you can see in the pictures below, that I would NEVER take bareMinerals SPF 20 Multi-Tasking Concealer Bisque back.  It is the best coverage, I have ever seen.  I now get compliments on my skin again. I would leave the house without mascara–if I could only chose one makeup item–it would be bareMinerals Bisque. AND this is something my teen daughter and I agree on.  It covers adult rosacea and teen acne (minor).  Love it!  Love it! Leslie Blodgett, CEO and creator of Bare Minerals/Escentuals let me be your practice Rat!  I love this stuff.  (I also use bare Minerals foundation and blush–messy to use but once you got the towel down–this stuff is da’ bomb!)

I  highly recommend this product.  My suggestions is that you go to ULTA or a makeup store that carries BareMinerals and try it for yourself.  I would have never have bought it off the TV–I’m just not that kind of a person, but once I tried bareMinerals Bisque at a store.  I was hooked!

No make-up–Note Rosacea on cheeks!

After Applying bareMinerals Bisque Concealer–No other Make-up!  LOVE IT!
