New Book Shares the Gift of the Real Alice in Wonderland

With interest rampant in Alice in Wonderland, a new book reveals the true life inspiration behind the children’s classic. C.M (Cathy) Rubin and her daughter Gabriella have just collaborated to write The Real Alice in Wonderland. With never before published illustrations and photographs as well as fascinating storytelling, the book takes readers through the entire life of Alice Liddell, the Victorian era youngster immortalized in the Lewis Carroll children’s classic. Alice Liddell was just four years old when she met Charles Dodgson, who later gained fame as Lewis Carroll. An amateur photographer, Dodgson would regale Liddell and her sisters with imaginative stories while taking their pictures. Those stories eventually led to the publication of Alice in Wonderland, with the young Liddell inspiring the creation of the fictional Alice.

  • Alice Liddell suffered great heartbreak as a mother. Two of her three sons were killed in World War I.
  • The Real Alice in Wonderland shows that on a day to celebrate the women who inspire, few have had the lasting impact of Alice Liddell.
  • Gabriella Rubin inspired her mother to write this book, and dedicated to her as well.
  • The book is subtitled A Role Model For the Ages. Along with Alice, the reference can also be to moms everywhere.

As a young woman, Liddell was a much sought-after love interest. Among her suitors: the son of Queen Victoria, Prince Leopold. The Rubins suggest the Queen pressured her son to end the romance. But years later, when they were married to other people, Leopold named his first child Alice, and acted as godfather to Alice’s son Leopold.


Filled with more than 500 illustrations and photographs, The Real Alice in Wonderland is a timeless gift for moms and their children.  C.M. Mother’s Day Dilemma: More Senior Moms will be Alone and Facing the Threat of Hunger this Holiday Weekend

Meals On Wheels Association of America stepping up Mother’s Day awareness campaign as food prices rise

The Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) wants all Americans to remember senior moms who’ll be alone and facing the threat of hunger on Mother’s Day this Sunday, May 9th. MOWAA recently launched a new campaign called “Meals for Moms” to bring attention to this national dilemma. MOWAA-sponsored research has found the threat of senior hunger on the rise during the country’s economic downturn as costs for basic necessities such as food continue to rise.

Anyone can go to MOWAA’s new microsite, MealsforMoms.org, to send a virtual flower bouquet to a special mom for this Mother’s Day, or even a homebound senior. By sending e-cards, visitors are helping to raise awareness of all the elderly moms who don’t have the food they need to survive. MOWAA’s goal is to send 10,000 e-cards for the upcoming holiday.

At MealsforMoms.org, visitors can choose from a variety of flowers – including roses, tulips, and lilies – for their virtual bouquet. If someone wants to send their bouquet to a Meals On Wheels client, those e-cards will be printed out and distributed by Meals On Wheels programs, along with any special messages written by the card creators. Money raised from this campaign will go into MOWAA’s Meals for Moms Fund to help Meals On Wheels programs across the country feed homebound moms.
“Right now 1 in 9 seniors in our very own country face the real threat of hunger. These seniors are our mothers and grandmothers and aunts. Many mothers who worked so selflessly to raise their children are now elderly and alone without enough food to eat,” said MOWAA President and CEO Enid Borden. “I hope everyone will join us in our Meals for Moms campaign so that the hidden, hungry, and homebound senior moms are not forgotten this Mother’s Day.”

Chief Blonde Remarks:  I have never used anything on my face to remove my make-up except water…There I said it.  NOTHING.   Why? Because everything makes my face break out in pure irritaiton.  So when I agreed to try the Skin Authority GO! Love Kit..I thought, OH great, another break-out.  Guess what?  Not true.  I have been faithfully using these products for three weeks and I love them.  Really.


As I aged, the water no longer cleaned my pores and my rosecea (a skin condition common in people with fair peaches and cream skin) was more and more prominent.  When I used the Skin Authority Daily Cleanser, my skin did not break out, my rosecea did not get worse, in fact, it got better.  In addition, when I used the Resurfacing Accelerator, I flel a slight burning and tingling as the package said I would, but I just stuck to everyday use as they suggested.  My skin really does look and feel nicer.  I loved the Tri-Power Peptide Hydrator for soothing my skin after the Resurfacing Accelerator.  Ahh.  I can finally use a skin care product and it actually works.  I am sincerely looking forward to trying other products in the line.  Oh, did I mention, it’s not smelly at all.  No disgusting over abundance of fragrance.

Here’s a couple more things about Skin Authority that I loved.  When I got a little confused about how to use the products, I called their 1-800 number and the skin care coach on the line  really knew her products.  She got me on the right path.  After you use the products, for three weeks, they email you and “check” in with you to see how you are doing and if you have any questions.  Neat?  REAL CUSTOMER SERVICE– talking to a person who understands the product.  Also, their packaging and enclosures were super helpful.  They were laid out clearly and were actually fun to read.   I am very very impressed with Skin Authority’s GO love package, would HIGHLY RECOMMEND it for Mother’s day, and I hope to try more products in their line for Mature Sensitive skin like mine (and probably yours!)

Sebago Shoe Review–Women over 45–2010 Mother’s Day Gift Guide

 Chief Blonde’s Remarks:  I was sent this wonderful shoe for review.  First, I want to put in a disclaimer here.  I am a massive shoe-a-holic!  No, really.  Everyone who knows me knows it.  I started a group on facebook called: 

True shoe addiction– I buy shoes and THEN I buy the outfits to match!

So I am super picky when it comes to shoes–wearing, recommending, buying or whatever.  Well, these Sebago shoes are just like getting a pair of ruby slippers!  You put the Sebago Plazas on and they don’t won’t come off.  I have wore them with Socks (a la Michael Jackson) and without socks (late 70s baby!)–still comfortable.  They look cute with a chino skirt or a pair of super straight jeans.  You will never never catch me wearing capris but I imagine they would look nice with capris as well.  Each time I wear the shoes,  they keep getting better, just like they were made for me!  I know you are so very very jealous of me because I have these classic loafers and you don’t.  You can remedy that by going to Sebago.com and buying your own.  These Sebago shoes are definitely worth  $90.  I am sure they will last me forever!  Here’s a couple more styles and a few words from the company.  Oh, they also make men’s shoes too!  Highly recommended!
