Fun. Effective. Powerful.  A great way to learn Foreign Languages

(Posted by Technical Editor: W. Zurek)

sing2learn

Women over 45, Learn a Foreign Language through Singing!

Sing2Learn combines three innovative methods to make learning easy, fun, and interesting: Sing2Learn, Sing2Pattern, and Sing2Picture. Sing2Learn uses singing to make the learning process fun and easy. Learners mimic what they hear with very little stress or mental processing. Sing2Pattern allows learners to create hundreds of sentences from simple sentence patterns and syllable patterns. Sing2imageture uses the power of visualization to enhance learners’ memorization skills through visually stimulating graphics.  All of the songs are 100% original and they emphasize simplicity, clarity, and a comfortable pace for easy learning, and are creative — which makes it fun and easy to learn.

Watch the video, Have some fun!

Still Blonde smallChief Blonde Remarks:

Sing2Learn is just what it says.  You are learning while you are singing.  Now we all know how we remember the most trivial songs, tv jingles, and radio ads that are set to music.  I’ll bet you can still sing the Big Mac song–”2 all Beef Patties…”  or how about  the Brady Bunch theme  “Here’s the story, of a lovely Lady,….”.   So you can certainly see why the Sing2Learn concept was very interesting to me when I first viewed it at the CES.

Christopher Boyd Brewer in his book Music and Learning says that music can help us learn because it will–

  • establish a positive learning state
  • create a desired atmosphere
  • build a sense of anticipation
  • energize learning activities
  • change brain wave states
  • focus concentration
  • increase attention
  • improve memory
  • facilitate a multisensory learning experience
  • release tension
  • enhance imagination
  • align groups
  • develop rapport
  • provide inspiration and motivation
  • add an element of fun
  • accentuate theme-oriented units

When you couple your knowledge of how music that you have learned has STUCK with you through the years with clear research on the Music and learning concepts–who can argue that a child or a Women over 45 can learn a foreign language or at the very least the common phrases with Sing2Learn?!

Stereovision PCs at the Tipping Point

[ 0 ] May 27, 2010
Jon Peddie Research says S3D PCs will thrive if there is good content to feed demand

There just might be a stereovision PC in your Christmas stocking this year.  Jon Peddie Research (JPR), the industry’s research and consulting firm for graphics and multimedia just completed an in-depth look at the emerging Stereo 3D (S3D) PC market. Titled, “Stereovision in PCs,” The report finds that the S3D market is poised for rapid growth in the immediate future. Close to one million dedicated S3D PCs will ship in 2010. That number will grow to 75 million by 2014 as S3D becomes ubiquitous.
 JPR S3D shipment data
Table 1: Growth rates from 2010 to 2014

Although most PCs will be S3D capable due to the GPUs that are in them, not all PCs will be S3D PCs because they need a special monitor, glasses, and appropriate content. However, S3D PCs will be very attractive to several important market segments.
JPR’s report provides forecasts for the unit sales of the seven major applications that will take advantage of S3D on the PC:

1.      PC: Games
2.      Blu-ray DVD movies
3.      Streaming TV (IP TV)
4.      Photo-editing
5.      Home video editing
6.      Streaming video (from YouTube and other sites)
7.      Professional graphics (CAD and visualization)

“Gaming will be the vehicle for kick-starting the S3D PC market,” said Jon Peddie. “The gaming segment has the largest inventory of content and the most vocal enthusiasts who will spread the word and show their friends and families what it looks like and what it can do.”

Pricing and Availability
The JPR S3D PC Market Study is available for $2,995. www.jonpeddie.com   Women over 45 take note–in a couple of years, this will be the technology that you will have to stand outside of TARGET for before Christmas!  You might as well be informed about it now!

126,000 Industry Professional at the 2010 CES

[ 0 ] May 17, 2010

World’s Largest Technology Tradeshow Posts Twelve Percent Attendance Growth

The 2010 International CES® today announced that 126,641 industry professionals attended the tradeshow’s four-day run in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 7-10, a 12 percent increase in CES attendance from the previous year. An independent audit of the 2010 International CES, performed by Veris Consulting LLC, confirms CES’ status as the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow and North America’s largest annual tradeshow of any kind.

Veris is certified by the Exhibition and Event Industry Audit Commission (EEIAC) to perform audits. As part of the Veris audit, each CES attendee is counted only once, and show size is calculated using only exhibit space actually sold, not hallways or bartered space.

“The CES was overflowing with innovative new products, and this audit proves that the 2010 International CES successfully attracted  top executives, retail buyers, content providers, entertainment executives, venture capitalists, engineers, government officials and media from every corner of the world,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, producer of CES. “CES is also a must-attend global event as evidenced by our more than 24,000 international attendees.”

The number of Women over 45 who attended the show was not readily available, much to the disappointment of Still Blonde after all these YEARS!,  a blog for women over 45!

2,500 global companies, including a record 330 first time exhibitors, unveiled an estimated 20,000 new technology products across 1.4 million net square feet of exhibit space. More, 24,364 international attendees from 136 countries helped increase global attendance at CES by more than eight percent over last year. The top ten countries represented at CES are Canada, Korea, China, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom, Taiwan, France, Brazil and Germany.
Senior-level executives and business decision makers continue to conduct business at CES. According to the Veris audit, 45 percent of all attendees were senior level executives, director level and above, on par with last year. Presidents, CEOs and/or business owners made up 20 percent of attendees.  More than one third of all attendees are the final decision makers when it comes to new product purchases and partnerships within their organizations. More than 8,400 attendees represented companies with more than $500 million in total annual sales, nearly double the previous year.
The Veris audit also shows that CES attracts leaders from diverse business areas including entertainment, retail, education, engineering and venture capital. More than 12,000 retail buyers, 8,000 manufacturers and 3,000 engineers came to the 2010 CES along with more than 8,500 attendees from the software development/publishing, content development and entertainment industries, a 41 percent increase over last year.
Top government officials also attended the 2010 International CES. Policymakers from the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, the Department of Commerce, Federal Communications Commission (FCC), U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Department of the Treasury were all present.
Every year, influential media and analysts attend the CES to report on the cutting-edge technologies and trends in consumer technology. The 2010 CES drew more than 5,000 press, bloggers and financial and industry analysts.
The CES audit provides absolute verification of exhibition records, including direct on-site observation, examination of registration systems and testing of attendee records. Post-show analysis included direct confirmation sampling, reconciliation of attendance lists, elimination of duplicate names and verification of demographic data with the source of documentation.
Final audit numbers may differ from estimates given on-site due to additional badge pick-ups and badge reader reports. This audit complies with the industry standards for audits adopted by both the Exhibition and Event Industry Audit Commission (EEIAC) and the International Association of Exhibition and Events (IAEE).

The 2011 International CES is scheduled to run January 6-9 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Chief Blonde’s Remarks: Still Blonde after all these Years reported on neat and nifty items that they found at the 2010 CES.  At the first press event of the show, CES “Unveiled” many women 45 and over were spotted trying out this darling little massage chair.  The Chief Blonde and Blogger decided to jump in and give it a try and report back to you.  Here’s our youtube video:

The Inada Cube is an all-in-one, unobtrusive, casual furniture and lower body massage chair that folds into a space-saving option.  The Cube only weighs 49 pounds, 39 x 19 x 28.  www.Inadausa.com Retail $999.00  We liked the fact that the massage chair was nice enough to leave out in your living room all the time–YET–you could fold it up into a small cube and use as an ottoman, side table or just grab the handle and roll it into a nearby room or closet.  It comes in Black, Red and White and Ivory to fit any decor.

Of course, you can’t talk about this great massage chair without discussing the soothing massage benefits–which is really why you are buying it right?  The massaging action on the lower body was INTENSE especially for such a small package.  You could relax right into the chair and get the full massage benefits that often come in a much higher price version.  Frankly, we can’t see why anyone would consider anything else for what might be their first massage chair and after using it–might be the only one they will ever want!

What the Company says: FML-3000A Inada CUBE (MSRP $999)

To see CUBE is to want to try CUBE. To try CUBE is to love CUBE! Just a minute or two on CUBE is all it takes for a first-time user to marvel at the incredible completeness of such a diminutive robotic massage unit. As the technological leader in home-massage, it should not surprise anyone that CUBE has emerged from the world-renowned Inada “skunk works” in Osaka, Japan.
CUBE breaks all traditional barriers in the foot massager category. CUBE’s internal systems of dozens of air cells massage the entire lower body during one of four pre-programmed massage sessions. This affordable, readily accessible dual system of lower body massage chair and a foot stool/table top is ideally suited for the space-conscious among us.
Electronically-managed massage system provides soothing and carefully choreographed pressure-point treatments through foot reflexology. Other benefits are gained through alleviating stiffness and pain in the calf and lower back areas.
A system of air cells provide foot massage therapies that hone in on key pressure points of the foot and calves that follow age-old shiatsu practices – practices which have been proven to alleviate pain, stiffness and discomfort in all areas of the body.
Tapping Inada’s 50 years of massage chair R&D, this “mini chair” was developed as a low-cost option to a full fledged massage chair. For today’s budget conscious consumer, CUBE provides even greater user value with its multi-purpose design as chair, ottoman, side table and lower body massage! Its novel design also makes it an ideal interior design complement and conversational addition to any décor.

Apple Ipad: Women Over 45– Preliminary Review

[ 0 ] January 28, 2010

Apple Ipad–A Really Big Ipod Touch!

Here’s a great video from Engadget with view of the new Apple Ipad:

Chief Blonde’s Remarks:  We  sure would like an opportunity to review one of these for our Still Blonde after all these YEARS! audience of Women over 45.  We currently have an Apple iPod touch 32 GB (3rd Generation) NEWEST MODEL which we use extensively for our blog including easy access at trade shows– it’s amazingly easy to use and surf the web.  Reviewers are paralleling the Ipad with an Itouch–only bigger!  As we think the Ipod Touch is GREAT–we’d like to contrast the two.  Exciting times in Consumer Electronics! Criticism so far seems to focus on the fact that it’s not SOOO powerful but given that it combines basic computer, e-reader, ipod, and probably soon camera/video–it will probably work wonders for our readers. We’ll try our hardest to get one to review, maybe even a Giveaway?!

Here’s some basic details:
The iPad
Price: $499 for 16 GB, $599 for 32 GB, and $699 for 64 GB. Add $130 for 3G capability. Look for pricing to come down quickly–think the Iphone!
Data: Optional and no contract. $14.99 for 250 MB a month or $29.99 for unlimited.
When? End of March for WiFi-only version, end of April for 3G version.
Battery life: Reportedly 10 hours.
Other stuff: An 30-pin dock connector port (like iPods and iPhone), a speaker, a microphone, Bluetooth, accelerometer and a compass.

What the company says:

Apple® today introduced iPad, a revolutionary device for browsing the web, reading and sending email, enjoying photos, watching videos, listening to music, playing games, reading e-books and much more. iPad’s responsive high-resolution Multi-Touch™ display lets users physically interact with applications and content. iPad is just 0.5 inches thick and weighs just 1.5 pounds— thinner and lighter than any laptop or netbook. iPad includes 12 new innovative apps designed especially for the iPad, and will run almost all of the over 140,000 apps in the App Store. iPad will be available in late March starting at the breakthrough price of just $499.

“iPad is our most advanced technology in a magical and revolutionary device at an unbelievable price,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “iPad creates and defines an entirely new category of devices that will connect users with their apps and content in a much more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before.”

iPad syncs with iTunes just like the iPhone and iPod touch, using the standard Apple 30-pin to USB cable, so you can sync all of your contacts, photos, music, movies, TV shows, applications and more from your Mac or PC. All the apps and content you download on iPad from the App Store, iTunes Store and iBookstore will be automatically synced to your iTunes library the next time you connect with your computer.

Apple also announced the new iBooks app for iPad, which includes Apple’s new iBookstore, the best way to browse, buy and read books on a mobile device. The iBookstore will feature books from major and independent publishers.

Listen to Steve Jobs introduce it:

2010 CES Show–Success for Women over 45!

[ 0 ] January 26, 2010
SUCCESSFUL 2010 CES SETS OPTIMISTIC TONE FOR INDUSTRY; MAJOR CES INNOVATIONS INCLUDE TABLETS, APPS, NETBOOKS, 3DTV AND SMARTPHONES
Global Technology Companies Make Exhibit Plans for the 2011 International CES
The 2010 International CES®, which concluded January 10 in Las Vegas, featured the world’s most innovative new technologies, from android products and apps to tablets, eReaders, netbooks and smartphones. As a result of the resounding success from the 2010 CES, exhibit space sales for the 2011 CES are already tracking ahead of 2010, with the 2011 International CES scheduled January 6-9 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“The 2010 International CES featured a record number of innovative products and raised the bar for the next generation of consumer technology,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA. “Due to the phenomenal success of the 2010 CES, we are seeing more companies sign up for the 2011 CES each day. We’re already exploring new TechZones and special exhibit areas for 2011, so that we can showcase the entire technology ecosystem. With more than 120,000 attendees, including 5,000 media, analysts and bloggers (including Still Blonde after all these YEARS!), CES is simply largest global platform for consumer technology product launches.”
“The quality of attendees at the 2010 CES was excellent; Sharp, like most exhibitors, is far more interested in seeing the “right” people during the show, not in how many people come to see us,” said Judah Zeigler, associate vice president, retail and consumer marketing group, Sharp Electronics Corporation. “Not only was our display extremely busy, but the people who came were genuinely interested in purchasing our products; in other words, they were true members of the trade. CES was truly the perfect springboard to what we are hopeful will be a strong 2010.”
“There is no doubt, this year’s CES was one of the best ever for D-Link,” said Daniel Kelley, senior director of marketing for the computer networking leader. “Our wide array of new solutions for the digital home – media players, home monitoring, energy efficiency products and Wi-Fi connectivity – not only drew huge crowds to our booth, but earned enormous media coverage and a ton of awards.”
More than 20,000 new products were announced at the 2010 CES, including the products listed below, which generated tremendous buzz throughout the industry. Several companies listed had such success at the 2010 CES, they have already made plans to expand their exhibit space for the 2011 International CES.
New products announced at the 2010 CES include:
  • Asus Eee PC Touch Series tablet

MusicSkins Review: 2010 CES–Ipod Touch Customization and Design.

[ 0 ] January 19, 2010

At the 2010 CES (Consumer Electronic Show) in Las Vegas, Nevada we received a review sample of MusicSkins.  They gave us a really cool pre-printed design skin to apply to the front and back of our Ipod Touch (they have skins for most devices and it’s compatible with all accessories, cases and docks).  When you visit them online at www.MusicSkins.com/Downloads you can add matching wallpaper to your Device so that the Skin and your Wallpaper coordinate.  How cool is that?  We were also given a code so that we could design our very own skin with custom tools.   It was super fun–just kind of hard to decide what picture to settle on!  This would be an excellent gimmick for a company as a giveaway.  We had to apply the front skin twice (okay, so maybe the directions weren’t read the first time around…).  We liked them as they were easy to apply, left no residue when removed and helped to protect our Ipod touch for fingerprints and scratching.  It was a great way to personalize, without the extra bulk of a case!  Loved this product–would highly recommend for companies to consider as a giveaway!

Wrapsol Review:Scratch Proof Protection IPod–2010 CES

[ 0 ] January 17, 2010
Stay Protected.  Stay Conected.

At the 2010 CES, Still Blonde after all these YEARS! received a sample of this wonderful film, from the Wrapsol booth.  Our particular product, was for our Ipod touch.  Essentially it’s two pieces of super-duper strong film that you apply to both sides of your device to keep your device scratch and fingerprint free.  It also enhances the grip, is durable and transparent, is easy to apply and has a lifetime warranty.  The Wrapsol protection system is available a wide variety of electronic devices including: Iphone, notebooks, netbooks, game consoles, digital readers, cameras and GPS sysems.
What the company says:  Wrapsol is the world’s first and only 14-mil protective film for digital devices—it’s twice the strength of competitors’ films, but so clear that its virtually invisible. With more and more devices using touchscreen technology every day, dependable protection is more important than ever. And because all of us must do our part to protect the environment, we donate a portion of each sale to Cool Earth, so you help save 500 square feet of rainforest with every item purchased. In fact, we project helping Cool Earth save over 1,500 acres by the year 2010!
Chief Blonde’s Remarks:  Well the first time we put the film on, there was a big thumbprint smudge under the front screen.  However, on the second try, with really really clean hands, Wrapsol applied perfectly.  You can’t really tell it’s there but PRESTO, no more fingerprints–the Ipod touch looks like new all the time (front and back).  We thought it was a little pricey ($24.95), but when we saw it on Amazon for $15.23 we agreed we would get Wrapsol scratch-proof protection for our other Apple Devices.  You really need this to keep your Iphone, Ipod touch and other small electronic devices looking great.  I just want to know, do they make anything like this for my kitchen counters?  Kidding…just kidding!  (Make sure to watch the video, it really is easy to apply!)
