May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Summer is right around the corner so it’s no surprise that May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. The focus of the campaign is to highlight prevention, early detection, and treatment of skin cancer.  In the US, each year, two million people  are diagnosed with nonmelanoma skin cancers (mostly basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas).  These cancers, while highly treatable, can lead to disfigurement when left untreated.  The most deadly form of skin cancer is Malignant melanoma with 57,000 diagnosed and 9000 deaths from the disease in 2008.  This figure continues to rise.

Each year, a  blogger I try to post about the Skin Cancer Awareness cause in May. As Blog readers and Bloggers, I am asking you to do your part to Stop Skin Cancer.  You can protect yourself by avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun and staying out of tanning beds.  When you must be in the sun, cover up, wear and reapply sunscreen, and don’t forget your hat.  You can help protect others by Repinning (to Pinterest)  any or ALL of the following Skin Cancer Quotes to increase awareness as we roll into the summer months.

Nature’s Hand Granola Enhances your Breakfast and Recipes

Nature’s Hand Granola — A Whole Lot of NO!

What I first noticed about Nature’s Hand Granola was all the things it DIDN’T have.  NO Artificial Colors or Flavors.  NO Preservatives. NO Sodium. NO TransFats.  NO High Fructose Corn Syrup.  Well..YEAH!  Sounds like a great snack.  But really, without all of those things..how did it taste?  At 140 Calories for a 1/4 cups serving, I was hoping for a great flavor punch.  I first sampled the Wild BlueBerry Flavor of Nature’s Hand.  Oh Boy..I had to stop myself as I wanted to use it in this recipe for Baked Oatmeal and I had to have enough to use the Granola to top the recipe.  (Aside>> this Baked Blackberry Granola Oatmeal recipe was super delicious with the Wild Blueberry Granola by Nature’s Hand!)  The Maple Pecan was Very Mapley…In a good way.  We tried the Maple Pecan as a stand alone cereal and also over salad..both good choices.  The other flavors of Granola they offer are:

• - Original Vanilla Almond
• - Cranberry Delight
• - French Vanilla Almond
• - Raisin Hazelnut
• - Cinnamon Apple

Fifty Shades of Grey Review–The Non-review of this Trilogy

I am not going to go into the detail of these novels, the Shades of Grey Trilogy by E.L. James,  other than comment that Erotica, S&M, and sex dominated books are NOT my idea of books that should be occupying the #1, #2, and #3 spot on the New York Times best seller list.  REALLY?  No… I haven’t read them, nor do I have any interest.  Ellen’s response is pretty much my own, but her face and expressions are funnier so I let her say it for me!

I am not even going to ask you what YOU think…But I know you will tell me ANYWAY!

Mother’s Day 2012– Outfits Modeled by Women over 45

We regularly feature Outfits for Women over 45 and often focus them around holidays or special occasions.  The Chief Blonde LOVES to dress up so, more often that not, she will be in a dress!

My Husband, Son and Daughter took me to Mother’s Day Brunch at Camp Ticondorga in Rochester Hills, MI.  See our Review.

I remember as a little girl going to my Grandma’s House on Mother’s day, bringing her a corsage and taking her to church.  Now people don’t even wear corsage’s anymore do they?  Here’s a closeup shot of my Vintage Earrings and Necklace.

This is my Son and Daughter.  They took me to brunch and then we all went to church together.  I also have two older boys who were not able to be there (they celebrated Mother’s Day with their mom).     All four of my children are in college or will be shortly.  One is studying to be a Lawyer, the next is finishing up a degree in communication and contemplating the Ministry, the next is studying to be a Pharmacist and the final is focusing on becoming Martha Stewart!

My Children are my Jewels and I am the Luckiest Mom in the Whole World!

The Chief Blonde Remarks:  Today, I’m giving away the Side Saddle dress from Shabby Apple , an online boutique of women’s dresses. This is my first dress from Shabby Apple although I have been stalking the Shabby Apple Site for over a year and admiring their designs on other blogs.  I ordered the Shabby Apple Review Dress in “Side Saddle“,  a lovely aquamarine and light brown dress.  I wore this little ensemble to Mother’s Day Brunch with my kids and it was perfect.  From the second I slipped the dress on, (I ordered my normal size and it fit like a glove), I knew I was in LOVE!  I felt like I was channeling Kate Middleton with the dress’s simple yet elegant design and high quality construction.  It was super duper slimming with its slightly high waist design and the sweetheart neckline emphasized the vintage feel.  The dress was fully lined coupled with quality zippers and seaming.  You can check out my Full Outfit post on the Shabby Apple Review Dress on our Outfits Modeled by Women over 45 Post “A Mother’s Jewels”.  Shabby Apple has moved to the TOP of my favorite Dress lines!
