Still Blonde after all these YEAR takes on the Maxi Skirt for Women Over 45!

This is a terrifying trend–Maxi’s . Just the name makes me think of a winged feminine product, not something beautiful for Women over 45. I have seen this trend so many time in the 6 decades that my life has spanned that–and sometimes… MAXI’s just aren’t pretty. The thing about a Maxi Dress or skirt is that it’s really really easy to screw up! Wrong shoes, wrong accessories, wrong top, wrong jewelry and you have a prescription for DISASTER.
Let’s take a look at just one version of a DON”T (I could fill my whole blog with those) and one version of a DO!
MAXI DON’T! MAXI DO!
MAXI DON’Ts:
1) Avoid Frumpy–The “Don’t” Outfit above just says..
“I am trying to cover my body, every inch of it…and don’t you look at me. Toodles..I off to do my Gardening Club Meeting.”
2) Avoid being OVERWHELMED with the look…In the Don’t above, each of the pieces can be cute on their own but so much length and coverage and cuteness just turns me into an “Old Aunt”.
3) Remember what DECADE you are in…Maxi’s now (2011) are all about a sexy twist. Yes, you can wear low shoe, but then maybe keep the top simple and tight. Yes you can wear an wild hawaiian or african print, but don’t go all ’80s on us and continue that with wild jewelry, hair, etc.
4) Remember your AGE! Yes, you must do that. It’s an absolute truth that what you could wear in your 20s and 30s, you may not be able to wear now. It will look rediculous, you need to shake it up for your age. For example, as some women age, their arms make be a tad (or a lot) shaky. When you were 20, you may have been able to wear that a cute tank and a Maxi skirt. Now, unless you are a Denise Austin beast or don’t give a crap, you may want to consider a short sleeve shirt or jacket to pair with the outfit.
