Can Do People!
Walt and I return to our Alma Mater Kettering University (formerly General Motors Institute when we attended there) for Walt’s 35 Reunion.
Walt and I met in college. We didn’t date during that time, but we knew each other (actually Walt was in my former spouse’s fraternity). When we got together in our 30’s, we often were glad of all the mutual friends and history we shared from college days. Recently, we returned to our university for Walt’s 35th (I can’t even believe I writing that number) college reunion. We hung out with old friends, posed in front of the bell tower, and visited our old dorm rooms.
What I always admired about Walt from college and when we got back together was his “Can Do” attitude. He was always the one who made the winning point in the championship game, the single dad who raised two boys, the 42 year old who still dunked the ball, and the retiree who got calls almost every week from old work colleagues trying to convince him to return to work.
When Can Do People have a setback
Walt recently retired. Shortly thereafter, he had surgery on his meniscus. A torn meniscus is one of the most common knee injuries. Any activity that causes you to forcefully twist or rotate your knee, especially when putting your full weight on it, can lead to a torn meniscus. Walt thinks he might have torn his meniscus playing basketball in a church league (at 56 years of age mind you!).
Walt is the best patient after his surgery! He does everything the doctor told him to do. He is building up his workouts slowly, and now 3 months after the surgery he is back at the gym lifting weights and playing basketball. He does the proper stretching to strengthen his quadriceps. Every day he drinks an Ensure High Protein Nutrition Shake to give him increased nutrition, strength and energy to continue doing the things he loves.
Walt is back on the court with the help of Ensure High Protein Nutrition Shake.
Can Do People face their setbacks head on
When Can Do People face a setback they:
- Understand the role nutrition plays in turning “I can’t” into “I can,” or “I used to” into “I am back to”
- Regain their strength and energy after a health setback with the help of nutritional products like Ensure
- Challenge the perception of who an Ensure user is – it’s not just older sick people—it’s people who are checking the things off their “Can Do List” every day and living active, full lives
- Do not let a health setback define them

I have let a health setback define me and it’s not pretty. This has prompted me to make a few changes to get back on track.

Wow what an amazing trip it must have been to revisit your college all those years later. That is one impressive bell tower, definitely one of a kind.
I never think of Ensure for day to day energy and protein, but it makes sense so much. I often cant eat lunch at work and get fatigued easily because of it. This is definitely a healthy way for me to prevent that .

My mom used to be a huge fan of ensure. I’ve never tried it myself but think I would like to! Could really use some added protein in my diet right now!

Your hubby did all the right things to get back in the swing of things. (or is that the jump of things)

Glad Walt’s back playing basketball — good for him!
I need something as good as Ensure but nondairy — anyone know of anything?
Jen says
Such an inspiration that he kept his can do attitude. Following Dr’s orders and making sure he kept active was such a smart thing to do.

This is such a great post that hopefully will inspire others to have that can do attitude. I can tell how much you admire Walt, sounds like a great person! Glad you two were able to go back in history for a 35th reunion, that sounds lovely!

I drink Ensure sometimes because I have trouble gaining and maintaining weight. My toddler also drinks Pediasure to help him gain and grow!
Heather says
I haven’t tried this myself but I know it is so nutritious. A few people I knew who couldn’t eat regular food relied on ensure.

What a great story about how you both met! I do not have this kind of story with my husband since our story began in high school and we did not live on campus.

I am glad to hear that Walt has recovered from his surgery. I recently added Ensure to my diet to make sure I am getting enough protein. It comes in some delicious flavors.
