Can Do People!
Walt and I return to our Alma Mater Kettering University (formerly General Motors Institute when we attended there) for Walt’s 35 Reunion.
Walt and I met in college. We didn’t date during that time, but we knew each other (actually Walt was in my former spouse’s fraternity). When we got together in our 30’s, we often were glad of all the mutual friends and history we shared from college days. Recently, we returned to our university for Walt’s 35th (I can’t even believe I writing that number) college reunion. We hung out with old friends, posed in front of the bell tower, and visited our old dorm rooms.
What I always admired about Walt from college and when we got back together was his “Can Do” attitude. He was always the one who made the winning point in the championship game, the single dad who raised two boys, the 42 year old who still dunked the ball, and the retiree who got calls almost every week from old work colleagues trying to convince him to return to work.
When Can Do People have a setback
Walt recently retired. Shortly thereafter, he had surgery on his meniscus. A torn meniscus is one of the most common knee injuries. Any activity that causes you to forcefully twist or rotate your knee, especially when putting your full weight on it, can lead to a torn meniscus. Walt thinks he might have torn his meniscus playing basketball in a church league (at 56 years of age mind you!).
Walt is the best patient after his surgery! He does everything the doctor told him to do. He is building up his workouts slowly, and now 3 months after the surgery he is back at the gym lifting weights and playing basketball. He does the proper stretching to strengthen his quadriceps. Every day he drinks an Ensure High Protein Nutrition Shake to give him increased nutrition, strength and energy to continue doing the things he loves.
Walt is back on the court with the help of Ensure High Protein Nutrition Shake.
Can Do People face their setbacks head on
When Can Do People face a setback they:
- Understand the role nutrition plays in turning “I can’t” into “I can,” or “I used to” into “I am back to”
- Regain their strength and energy after a health setback with the help of nutritional products like Ensure
- Challenge the perception of who an Ensure user is – it’s not just older sick people—it’s people who are checking the things off their “Can Do List” every day and living active, full lives
- Do not let a health setback define them

This is a really great post and full of great info. I don’t eat lunch during the week I drink Ensure or some type of protein drink. I don’t always eat right so it helps.

It’s hard for people to be patient while healing. Many people don’t and injure themselves worse.
Rosanne says
My husband and son had that surgery too. Good quality protein and vitamin C for healing

I see this post was a year ago. I hope his knee is back to good.

I had a relative who drank Ensure as a cancer patient, wasn’t able to eat regular food. Many people to not listen to their doctor, and do all kinds of things they are not supposed to, don’t wait, etc. You are lucky he is compliant!!

I hope Walt is on the mend. Good luck to him.

I am glad he is recovering so well. At our age, many times an injury like that can be difficult to heal.

I like that you pointed out that you and Walt lead full and happy lives, in your mid 50s! Taking care of One’s self is so important and protein drinks are a wonderful source for protein.
