Adult snacking doesn’t have to mean beer and chips
Walt and I lead a crazy busy life as many of my readers know. Attending sporting events of local college teams and our nephews, renovating condos, traveling or helping out our four college kids keeps us on the road and away from our kitchen quite often. It’s easy to throw the concept of fine dining and even classy snacking right out the window when you keep this kind of a schedule. When driving around in a mini-van, it’s so easy just to stop for fast food, right?
However, I prefer to pack my own snacks rather than buy them on the run at a concession stand or fast food joint. It’s fun after a hard day of condo renovating to sit down and have a refreshing classy snack joined with balanced food pairings. I have a great backpack cooler that I take with me EVERYWHERE that provides that extra touch of sophistication to our brief in-between meal respites.
Walt and I are both over 50 and we do try to lead a better-for-you lifestyle. Walt’s a big man (6′ 6″) and very athletic. He avoids sweets usually (except with his tea) so his preferred brand of snack involves proteins (meats, cheeses and nuts) coupled with wholesome fruits, grains and vegetables. As a result, my tastes have shifted over time and now we both tend toward nutrious snacking. It just feels more adult to us.
Oscar Mayer’s new adult snack, P3 Portable Protein Packs are a snack that meets mine and Walt’s on-the-go needs. Yes, it’s a snack that is grab-and-go, yet still fits our snacking requirements as classy fuel! Each package has 14 g of protein and less than 1 g of sugar. I like that the flavors include 4 varieties: Applewood Smoked Turkey Breast, Applewood Smoked Ham, Rotisserie Seasoned Chicken Breast, and Slow Roasted Turkey Breast because Walt likes smoked meats and I prefer roasted or rotisserie. Walt loves that each package includes Oscar Mayer meats and Planters Nuts, while my focus is on the inclusion of Kraft Cheese….mmmm.
With the convenient sizing, we can each have our own, share one or pair it with other delectable wholesome foods. P3 is a lot better snacking option then beer and chips for us.
What amazed me too was the pricing. At my local Walmart, the day I shopped, the Portable Protein Packs were a mere $1.00. In the picture below, this little placard next to the Oscar Mayer P3 made me chuckle. The placard read: The scientific name for this protein is “meat, cheese, and nuts.” Fun way to talk about #PortableProtein and #MeatCheeseNuts, don’t you think?
So now whether we are renovating, cheering for the Spartans, arriving home from work or heading off on travels we have another better-for-you food that we can grab for our cooler. Meat, cheese and nuts all packaged into the Oscar Mayer P3 Portable Protein Packs seems like a classy affordable in-between snack to stave off adult hunger pains.

These are a great snack idea. One of my favorite things to snack on is cheese.

I’m so busy too and my “go to” snack involves a spoon and a jar of peanut butter – definitely not classy. This looks like a much better alternative.

It is so refreshing to see how active adults can still enjoy a dignified snack on the go, without having to hit the drive through. You are just too cute in your road trip outfit at the back of that van! I’d let you pack my snacks any time! #Client

I love the idea of taking these portable snacks and making them more “classy.” Such a good fit with your blog! I need to try these snacks on the go too.

I also have a backpack cooler but it nowhere near as sophisticated as yours. I make a useful shoulder bag with many pockets inside and out. I made one for friend, a wine maker. The pockets inside fit a bottle of wine, 2 wine glasses, a corkscrew and some snacks. She loves using it.
