Wearing Pantyhose can be Good for your HEALTH Too!

Women over 45, do you remember when you wouldn’t ever dream of going anywhere in a dress without wearing pantyhose, some of you can probably even recall when you didn’t go anywhere without a girdle and stockings!

Well, apparently, Kate Middleton, the beautiful British bride of Prince William is being seen EVERYWHERE in sheer pantyhose!  Yep, that’s right, Kate Middleton wears sheer pantyhose! And it’s probably not because she forgot to shave either!  It seems the Queen prefers her little royal ladies to be seen in public in hose, and Kate Middleton is  towing the line on that trend! You will never see the Queen in anything but the stiffest support hose.  It seems that across Britain and even starting in the US,  is a movement to bring back to wearing pantyhose, at least for special occasions!  Pantyhose are simply flying off the shelves where they are available–many department stores NO LONGER EVEN CARRY PANTYHOSE!  Really!

YIPEE!  The Chief Blonde is secretly thrilled beyond belief!  She has scary like death very pale skin and as result (and especially because she is over 45) a nice sheer pantyhose can actually provide a little bit of enhancement to  a pair of legs that otherwise aren’t too bad…

Medical Benefits of Pantyhose

Did you know that you can realize Medical Benefits from wearing Pantyhose as well?

According to Board Certified Vein Specialist, Dr. Z. Catherine Navarro (www.DrNavarr.com) from the  Vein Center of the Palm Beaches, the following benefits of  Panty Hose can be expected.

Provide Comfort

A more sturdy kind of hose, often called support hose can provide relief to  tired legs and apply soothing  pressure to  massage the lower limbs which leads to  improved circulation and a reduction in discomfort .  Anyone who spends a long time on their feet such as beauticians, medical workers, athletes,  production supervisors  will find support hose or even the high energy pantyhose useful, which we would bet is one of the reasons Kate Middleton is wearing them as well!

Stop Health Risks in their tracks with Prevention

Varicose veins, spider veins, inadequate circulation, and swelling in the feet, legs or ankles can be prevented by wearing support hose.  Spider veins usually appear first and look like little red spiders when they appear on your legs.  The Chief Blonde first got spider veins when she was just 23 years old and was working as a production supervisor.

Medical & Health Concerns can be relieved

The Mayo Clinic strongly supports the use of support hose to reduce all kinds of risks from extended standing or long hours of work.  Some of the concerns addressed by support stockings use are chronic venous insufficiency,  thrombosis, and even pulmanary embolism (when a clot breaks off blocking an artery to the lung)

  1. I’m rejoicing and haven’t even reached my 45th birthday. I just don’t like the way my feet feel in dress shoes without pantyhose. (Not to mention, Alaska is NOT a warm climate!)

  2. I wear panty hose occasionally, and I’m only 22!
I think they can make an outfit look a little more polished, and I especially want to wear them if my knees might be showing! Yikes! ;-)

    • LovesEm says:

Now you are a very sensible thinking woman. That polished look will make an outfit FLOW.

  3. Rachel C says:

    I haven’t worn them in a while, but I probably should :)
Yours look great – I didn’t even notice until you gave yourself away!

  4. Kathy says:

Yay! I’ll wear them to two weddings in September, and maybe the rehearsal dinners too. Hopefully I still have some. The last time? I don’t remember. But it was my fancy expensive black ones.
    Kathy

  5. Elle says:

LOL I didn’t even know pantyhose went out of style. I wouldn’t care anyway really. Half the time I wear tights…and I’m the person who wears long johns under long skirts in the winter…so not gonna quibble about hose. Support hose feel good if you have to stand up a lot anyway. Comfort beats style any day of the week.

  6. I am opposite I have pretty tan skin both from tanning and just naturally a darker skin tone, don’t know why since I am a Norwegian. When I traveled I always wore some special nylon socks for my legs because they always ached when I flew so they were nice and tight. Kate is beautiful!

  7. Sadie says:

No way.. lol Maybe when I’m older. ;)

  8. Wow…I actually didn’t realize that you were wearing pantyhose in these pictures. To be truthful, I don’t even KNOW the last time I wore pantyhose. Of course, my legs could probably use the support, but…I don’t even consider wearing them anymore! Where can you even buy them? LOL.

  9. I love the way my legs feel in panty hose, now if only those orange colored ones we used to wear in te 80s would come back in style

  10. Skye says:

I had no idea there were medical benefits! Wow..
And I must say- you have some rocking legs!!

  11. Maggie says:

I must admit that I’m nearing 40 and I never wear pantyhose (I always find it too itchy). That being said, now that I’ve read your post I think I’m going to have to get some because the medical benefits sounds great (and I’m pretty pale as well!).

  12. I’m going to be standing up in my sister’s wedding this Thanksgiving and I desperately WANT to wear pantyhose but don’t want to stand out by being the only one. I do know that if you buy top of the line pantyhose, you can’t even tell you are wearing them. I love the feel of them, myself and they do add a polished and more “tanned” look for those of us who have pale legs. I am using a bronzer right now to try to darken my legs for the even, but I HATE my knees and really want to make them look better. I’m so happy to have seen this post!

  13. Toni says:

What is a good brand for pantyhose? I cannot imagine that Sheer Energy would look good these days, with the shine and all.

    • Hey Toni, No idea. You can’t even find them in major dept stores. I buy mine at Salvation army because people are just donating them. These are $16 hose in the package! The chief Blonde

    • Anna says:

You are right, Toni, Sheer Energy, or what I call “Supermarket Hosiery” is not the way to go, nor what Kate and sis wear. The key word is “sheer”, and Sheer Energy is very thick and unflattering. Look for 15 denier, 100% nylon or very little spandex or other component added for stretch and durabiliity. Since these are more sheer getting control top would be beneficial to help keep them from sagging after a few hours of wear. I’ve read that Kate purchases such brands like Aristoc and Woolford which are European brands. You can order them online, but if you’re shopping retail in the states, look for DKNY or Calvin Klein, or for special occasions try Hanes Absolutely Ultra Sheer or Berkshire if you are more full figured.

Lastly, note the sheen that accentuate Kate’s legs. It is quite alluring yet tasteful. Thicker, cheaper hosiery will not provide this, and will make the wearer look like she raided her granny’s drawer in a rush.

  14. elle says:

I only wear hose in the fall and winter. In the summer time I go without because Charla says it calls attention to the fact that you’re old. I look younger than 45 (I’m 47) and work in a department with people a decade or more younger and being perceived as old is the last thing I need. But yes, I consider wearing hose more polished, professional and decent being a Gen-X girl, that’s how I was raised.

  15. [...] Middleton Wedding Doll. Is the newest doll wearing Sheer Pantyhose, the newest trend, like in >these pictures< of Kate Middleton? No, it appears the doll is wearing a host of British Designers but not the [...]

  16. Linda says:

I’m 60 years young, have heavy, freckled legs and live in a small mid-western town. I don’t wear a dress often but if I do I wear panty hose, most everyone does in the winter months. In the summer, if it’s a dressy event, I wear leg make up. So I am fond of the tights that I see on many fashion bloggers and of hose. …not the old, orange, way too obvious type.

  17. [...] you notice that I and Kate Middleton and the Kardashians all have something in common?  HMMMM?  Yup, that’s right I too am [...]

  18. CapitalGal says:

This is such a funny conversation!
I’m a 28 year old woman living in Ottawa, Canada and working in a very large office. Once it gets cold here (ie. under 5C), you NEVER see bare legs! Everyone wears some sort of hose or tights – nude, black, patterns, fishnets, lace, whatever! I’m pretty sure my friends would think I was crazy if I showed to dinner with bare legs in January! And I didn’t think this was abnormal.
But I’m leaving for London on Sunday for a business trip and I’m totally questionning whether or not I should be wearing hose while there! These Europeans are making me paranoid :S

  19. RivkaBelle says:

I’m mid20s and have loved sheer hose since I was in middle school. I’m weird, I know, haha…But I love the way they make legs look, when you get the right color hose for your skin ((I’m VERY fair)). Plus, I learned the hard way: You do NOT wear heels without hose, unless you want a lovely collection of blisters. Oops, haha :o ) Another lesson learned lately: don’t skimp and wear cheap hose, they’ll drive you bonkers :o ) It’s worth the extra to get a good pair.

Love that Kate wears them and is bringing hose back to the forefront – now maybe people won’t think I’m so odd when I HAVE to wear them with certain shoes/outfits :o )
